Me and my chum are having a verbal disagreement. He claims that doing crunches is a core exercise. Although he may be right am i wrong to believe that core exercises refer to the Bench Press, Squats, ect.? I will much appriciate a fast response. Thankyou.

depends on your definition of "core". Core strength refers to your waist band like lower back and abs. your center.
i use the word core as like necasary and the core of my training ie bench presses, squats, deads.

Core refers to the big compound movements, so yeah your right.Stats:
Height: 5"10
Weight: 187lbs
Bicep - 15.4inches
Chest - 49 inch
Bench - 1rM = 245lbs
Squat - 1rM = 315lbs
Deadlift - 1rM = 315lbs (goal was 3 plates and got there)

Abs=midsection
Midsection=core

just ask him what he meant when he said core, duh! don't bring the whole world into your squabbles. you are right if he meant core as in necessary, and he is right if he meant core as in midsection.
