4-Day Splits vs Once a week..

I notice alot of advanced training is done in 3-4 day split routines.
The thing that confuses me is the amount of training on each body
part. I'm thinking of doing a 4 day split of the following:

day 1-legs | day2 - back/bi's | day 3 - chest/tri's
day 4-shoulders traps | day 5 - off | day 6 - legs - day 7 off

So as I said, I'm confused in the amount of training on each exercise.
I've seen advanced programs that suggest only 2 chest exercises and
3 back exercises. Is this enough? Of course I would do 4 sets, each
to failure. But is 2-3 exercises for each body part enough? Do advanced
body builders work this way? My goal is gain 5 pounds and be ripped.
Is this a solid routine or should I stick to one body part a day for once
a week. Normally I would train this way do about four exercises for
each body part only once a week:

monday - chest, tues-back, wed-abs, thur-shoulders, fri-arms.

Any help would be great.

People train very differently. People will back things up till the day they die. Ill say this, sticking to 1-2 excercises per muscle is best. Why? Your goal is to lift heavier, how can you concentrate on lifting heavier if you are doing 4 excercices a muscle. A muscle isnt some complex moving machine with parts, its a single unit. I personally believe low volume works best. Why would beating the crap out of a muscle with tons of sets of different excercises do anything? We arent all blessed with Arnold's genetics or his steroids, so why train like him?

If you are gonna use volume, go with GVT or OVT.

GVT is awesome. What is OVT, though?

I'm with Suicider, low volume is awesome. Do 1-2 exercise, I usually just do 1, and focus on adding more reps each workout or more weight. To get bigger you need to lift heavier weight and eat more food. You want each workout to work harder then tha last. You want to muscles to be loaded beyond the load they are accustomed to if size and strength are expected to be increased.

If your goal is to get bigger then I would suggest a hypertrophy based program. I've had good results with some of FortifiedIron's.
