Protien shakes...
I have been pounding back the protein shakes alot lately, everyday in the morning after work, after workout and before bed.... but i ve been hearing disheartening things like it can overload your kidneys and protein can leak and cause problems like kidney stones... over course i try to get as much protein as i can through whole foods, but with my schedulae its real hard..... i was wondering how many protein shakes is enough? i know the 1.5g x bodyweight, but you gotta remember with drinking water it also flushes some out in urine....
so the question is...
can i drink 4-5 protein shakes a day @ 3 scoops (24g per scoop) per shake? should i increase water intake? should i stop? should i spread out the intake more? should i take anything else to help or promote kidney health or anything related too?

stick to 1.5-2 scoops per shake, 3-4 times a day. You definitely can get too much protein, and it can be bad for you. It's not gonna be fatal or anything, just not good for the insides.

That's funny that you're from Oakville in Ontario, Canada because I'm from Oakville in St. Louis, MO (I know this doesn't answer your question, sorry!)

just get some basic bloodwork done at your doc. check liver enzymes... if they're high then back off the protein a bit. simple as that.
personally i could never get to 200g a day in protein without shakes.. so i need them.

dude nearly 300g from shakes each day doesn't sound like you're trying to get as much as you can from whole foods (unless you're taking in 500g/day )
you're wasting money... eat real food.

I never go over 3 shakes a day, and that's only if I have a really busy day. Two shakes a day is preferable. Just make sure to take in plenty of water.

Tweaked17 is right you need protein from real food. Protein shakes are good for you but 5 a day seems excessive. Whey protein shakes are good because the protein is released over time. More than 3 a day is deffinately overboard. You need protein from various sources to get good results. Meat, Poultry, Fish, Whey, Soy and Dairy all have beneficiall proteins. My advise to you would be to cut back to 3 shakes a day and drink NO LESS than a gallon of water every day. This will help your kidneys work more efficiently releasing some filtration pressure off the liver. Once this happens the liver can more easily aid in metabolising fats keeping you healthier overall.
