Diet Soda
I know this has been discussed before but I have a few questions concerning diet soda on a pre-contest diet. Most people say that Diet Coke is fine.
Is Diet Coke pretty similar to Crystal Light?
What's the difference between Diet Coke and Coke Zero?
What about flavored Diet Coke? Diet Coke with Lime, etc.?
What about other Diet Sodas? Diet Pepsi, Diet Mountain Dew, etc?
How much is appropriate to have per day?
At what point should you cut it out of your diet? The Monday before a show?

Cut them out Wednesday if the show is on Saturday. I try to keep them to a mininimum, meaning maybe 1 diet soda per day. Other's may differ..... sweetener's..ie splenda, walden farms products etc. Hope this helps!!!

Thanks Semper. Why do you limit to just 1 per day? Any specific reasons?
Is the difference relevant to someone who is only interested in how foods affect their appearance?

Its basically on like every other aspect of the diet, it varies with everybody. If your on track, sure treat yourself to a diet soda. ( I like diet dr. pepper ) As far as everyday that may be pushing it, I wouldnt make it a staple of your diet when cutting. That can lead to problems. Instead use it to keep your sanity when your making progress. I stop though at 4 weeks out.

Soda is bad for you period. 1 pop puts your body in acid state, your body will try to neutralize itself by using calcium from the teeth and bones. You will have better contest results if you just eliminate it all together.

no it doesn't. Your stomach acid is 6M HCl... but you want to tell me the relatively weak acidity of a soda is going to change your pH level.
No.

Thanks all for your replies. It just seems naughty to drink it... but if str8flexed says it's OK... it must be.
str8flexed - do you personally drink diet soda during pre-contest?
