im currently ~135lbs (i'm 5'4). i'm on a 4 day weightlifting split as well. i want to start doing cardio to drop down to 12% bf by summer (to see my abs). what is the best way to do this while minimizing muscle loss? i already am on a cutting diet, i just want to know what type of cardio i should do.
i read that you dont burn fat until after 20 mins of cardio. does that mean i'm burning muscles in the first 20 mins? and i dont want to do HIIT, cuz i want to preserve what muscles i already have. i'm willing to cardio for up to 45 mins or more instead. how often should i cardio, how long should i cardio, and what should i eat before cardio, and when i get home?

Probably around 20%
I tried a website, will try to post it soon, but it said like 15% for me--I measured like my neck, different parts of my arms and legs and abdomen, my chest, etc. And it asked for height and weight and I think age (for computing caloric intake).
Anyhow, it said about 15% and an electronic gripper (whatever you call them) fat monitor said 24%. I would say it's around 24% for me. I'm a little fatter than you are, so I would say you're at 20%.

Regarding cardio- just try to get in 4-5 days a week of 20-40 minutes... doens't need to be HIIT on cardio only days, just jog, elliptical whatever you can and aim for burning around 400-500 claories. On lifting days, you could follow with 10-15 mniutes interval training if you want or toss in about 20 minutes of lower heart rate cardio.
That, plus a managed diet, and you'll drop the pounds.
