Your Choice
P220R DAK (.45) or P229R DAK (.40S&W)?
What do ya think?
I am pretty sure I am going with the 220 but to stir conversation I thought I would ask on here.

Both are superb calibers. The question is do you want slightly more concealability and 4 more rounds in the magazine or does the extra weight, size and less readily available ammo really bother you. Personally, I never like to sacrifice magazine capacity, since the terminal ballistics of the two is similar in comparing good defensive ammo ie. Winchester Ranger-T or Federal HST. I do like the .45 though, just remember to get either one with night sights. BTW, they are sweet guns, I have a P228 that has served me well.

Thanks for the reply. I think I am going with the .40. I am looking forward to putting through the motions. My partner in my business is a custom gun builder and is a sig dealer. He is going to add a few extras to it.
Have you had any issues with your 228? I have read a lot of things regarding cleaning and that it is very iffy if the cleaning is not superb. I am a cleaning freak when it comes to firearms but curious if you had any problems like that.
Thanks again

I've had no problems at all and I'm not the most thorough gun cleaner around either. After stripping it down, I quickly clean the frame components (slide rails, ejector, etc) then move onto the slide itself, brush quickly patch out the barrel (using Breakfree only) and she's done. I purchased it new about 12 years ago and have put about 6k rounds through it, had a friend who is a Sig Armorer check out the springs and pins and all was fine. I did, however, replace the night sights (DIY Project). I love the ergonomics of the Sig compared to others on the market, it fits my hand very well. You'll enjoy the gun.

A resounding NIETHER!!
A 7.5 lb trigger pull makes the best of weapons practically worthless. Accuracy goes to hell and your fingers hurt after shooting even a few hundred rounds through it.
Get one of their handguns that functions properly and leave the politically correct, "made only for cops who are too stupid not to accidently shoot someone" guns to the dumbasses who deserve to be handicapped (and the poor slobs in the federal agencies who're required to carry those very well made pieces of garbage).

I agree I do not like the 7.5 lbs trigger but I was assumeing that could be adjusted. I am one of those GOV agencies that is the reason for the choices. We have pretty much free range in the Sig arena. So any suggestions as to which Sig would be better to go with

I have to agree as well, DAO sucks! Assuming you had made up your mind on one or the other, I refrained from suggesting a DA/SA P229 or P220. My P228 is DA/SA and I love it. Remember the NYPD had Glock install a special trigger connector just for them (The NY Trigger), I think it's something like 8 lbs, (could be even heavier) Glock standard trigger is 5 lbs. Just like the Feds I guess they think this will reduce the possiblity of accidental discharges, perhaps they just need remedial firearms safety training.

If I had to pick between those two i'd pick the 220. .45 is way better to shoot than jumpy .40
That being said I have a 226 and it's not all that great. I'd much rather see you get a USP45 or Glock 21. I have both and love both. Good luck with your new handgun.

Thanks for the post. I was really leaning towards the 45 but now I am on the fence. I had an HK .40 that I just loved, but now I am not so sure.

Well obviously to each their own. I've had a few .40S&W's now and haven't like any of them. .45acp is just so enjoyable to shoot and puts a nice big hole through anything you want it to.

Yeah that is a very good trait. I do like the .45 and even my partner is pushing for the .45.
