Heartburn and exercise! :(
In the past 2 months I have reduced my working out significantly....and I couldn't figure out why all the sudden I didnt want to do it anymore.
.... I realized the other day that everytime I do cardio or do heavy lifting, I get heartburn or just feel really sick afterwards!
I do get occational heartburn but I have never gotten it during exercise. This started about 2 months ago and I have no idea why all the sudden.
Anyone else ever experience this? I have been doing some web research and I guess it actually has a name, Exertion-Associated Gastro Esophageal Reflux (EAGER).
If you do experience it, any remedies besides taking pills everytime??
I hope this goes away..it is killing my workout routines

About six months ago, I started having severe acid while working out. I went to the doc. Man did I feel stupid after he told me that it was probably due to me drinking a soda at night and working out first thing in the morning.
I stopped the soda and haven't had reflux since.
If your diet hasn't changed to make your stomach feel upset, what are you doing differently? Stress on the body will cause you to feel ill if you are overdoing it. If you aren't, are you on supplements or vitamins that require you to have something on your stomach when you take them?
Hope you feel better soon. I know it sucks

That's a good one...could be a few things. I guess I would recommend rolaids, or tums or something before, while or after workouts. Do you eat before you workout, after etc? Last year I actually got a pretty severe uncer because I was taking ibuprophin every night...yup, ate a hole in my tummy. Now, whenever I take ibuprophin, I get horrible heart burn, and agonizing pain in the belly...so, motrin on occasion, otherwise I tough it out.
I am not a Dr., and so do not really have any suggestions aside from antacids...sorry.

Let's see:
- I dont really drink a lot of soda
- I have been very stressed/emotional/anxiety...etc. the last couple of months....
- I take maybe 1 or 2 Motrin every 2 weeks or so.
..soo...maybe it really is the stress. Lots of stuff happening in my life. Sometimes I wonder if I maybe have developed an ulcer from all that..haha.
But hmm...I hope it just goes away on its own. I have to run a race in a couple of days...not looking so good right now.

Yes, stress is a huge factor in a lot of things like this...creates more stomach acid, and so creates more problems with heartburn etc. If you think you have an uncer, please, please go to the Dr. I waited and waited last year when I had one, and it go to the point where I was doubled over in pain, and I scared my entire family. Not a good thing. Ulcers really hurt, and should be taken care of. I would really suggest some liquid Malox, or Rolaids or some sort of antacid - see how that works for you....

Try a bit of baking soda in water before your work out. Arm & Hammer baking soda has instructions (amounts & mix) on the package.
My boyfriend was having repeated acid stomach issues every day. One drink of this cured him (until he ate pickles again!).
