    wrist wraps

I noticed at the meet saterday that I went to that alot of lifters were wearing wrist wraps. I thought when your benching 315 or less that they really arent needed but maybe 1 guy out of about 20 wearing them benched that much.My question is if you wear wrist wraps all the time when benching heavy are you depriving your ligaments and other connecting tissues in your wrists strenth in the long run? I like the feel of support and straightness of the wrists i get when benching with the wraps but i would never want to over use them and risk my wrist losing out. So please leave me with your opinons and real world knowledge of training with your wraps and the pros and cons of either side.
    Powerlifting

    Deadlift-460 - 402 x 6
    Total - 1110

    Olympic lifting

    front squat - 257
    Clean - 242
squat + Behind the neck jerk - 222
    C + J - 210

I wear them when I get to a certain percentage on my shirted max. I don't wear them at all on raw work. I also wear a old pair of short wrapps during training, and have a pair of longer newer wrapps that I put on for PRs and meets.

Can you really blanket statement 315 or less on something like wrist wraps? I think alot depends on the person, how long they have been lifting a certain weight etc. For instance I used to wear them anything over 250lb, as my bench gets higher, when I start using them gets higher. When my wrists start to get sore, I put them on.

x2, i used to use them on 225 and above, and i've moved it up progressively so that now i use them at 265+ (unless my wrist is sore at the moment)

I use my wrist wraps every bench workout and especially whenever I go close grip to do either dynamic bench, JM Presses, or Extensions, as my wrists will ache if I don't.

I started using wrist wraps about 3 years ago for every set because they were getting sore, and Ive run into wrist problems this past year. I dont know if its soley based on the wraps, but Im sure it has something to do with it.

i use wrist wraps for all my working sets. i just have weak wrists.

whenever i clean a weight up, i can't stabilize my wrist @ the same time cuz the movement is just so fast. same thing when i start pressing.

    better safe than sorry.

Your wrists and forearms should get plenty of work from everything else you do.

I use straps during all my bench pressing, and all heavy lifts such as deadlifts.I feel better knowing the bar is less likely to slip out of my hands. Your grip and forearmes get plenty of work doing curls and various other excercises. I also do workouts that focus directly on the forearms. Using straps for bench pressing will not take anything away from your grip.
The hardest lift that you can ever do is lifting your Ass off the couch.
