    is there something wrong with me?

    i have been doing a cut from january 27th till now. for the month of april i have been eating 660 calories a day. 18 oz tuna split in to 3 meals. i feel hungry at night when im in bed, but i can still sleep on it.

    i am 5'8 175 before the cut. now i am 5'8 160. i train 5 days a week and 6 days of cardio.

    my everyday schedule is:

    7am wake up. lay in bed till 9am then get up.

    9am cook 6oz tuna and eat it for an hour.(if i eat it fast, im afraid i'll be hungry faster.)

    10am heading to the gym. with training and cardio(rowing machine 30 minutes burn 300 calories)

    12:30pm finish workout and cardio. heading home.

    1pm cook 6oz tuna. eat for an hour.

    2pm-5pm gaming on the computer.

    5pm 6oz tuna. eat for an hour.

    6pm in bed. looking on my phone.

    10pm lights out. sleep.


    i am just very confused how i am able to feel fine on an extreme low calorie for almost a month. i never heard anyone who is training in the gym doing a 600 calorie diet even for pre contest.

    I think this cut is too low for your brain and body to function properly but without gym, you move very little throughout the day, therefore you are able to maintain your health. I work at a 9-6 job everyday and do my workout, I commute for almost 4 hours and walk involuntarily 10.000 steps everyday so if I ate this low, I would probably in bed after a week. You do you, my friend. But don't go for too long, otherwise, it may wreck your metabolism

    brain and body function is fine. surprisingly i didnt feel terrible during my workouts. but after workout and cardio, i was pretty drained. i ate right after workout and with the little amount of food i have after my workout, i am able to feel back to normal. and at night time when im in bed, i do feel hungry, but its nothing that would break my diet.

    i did a 3 months diet for a cut. im not yo yo dieting. now i am slowly increasing the calories into my food after the 3 months diet. after the last months of 660 calories i found out i really dont need a lot of calories for my daily activities. i was actually increasing my strength during this 3 months period up until the last month when i was on 660 calories. my strength just stagnate but never lost strength.

    i already explain why it takes me 1 hour to eat. its so my body dont absorb the food so fast and i end up hungry again. 3 hours a day gaming is honestly not a lot. many gamers game on avg 10-15 hours a day. and lying in bed is because i really need a few hours to be fully awake in the morning and get ready to attack the day. at night time i have very bad insomnia, so with melatonin and being in bed i am setting my body to get ready to sleep. and that usually takes 3-4 hours to get myself to actually fall asleep. if i try to sleep right after i get in bed, i'd just be laying in the dark for 4 hours and end up sleeping very late in the night.

    Eating only the same singular food item in a small amount 3x/day isn't normal. Most people also mix in some form of social or other human interaction, employment or other productive activities into their daily routine. The fact that you need a few hours lying in bed in the morning to "attack" that daily routine, and 3-4 hours lying in bed to fall asleep after it, is also not normal. Your brain and body function may not be quite as stellar as you say.

    Regardless, it's your life and body and you can choose how to conduct your day and what you eat - so there's no need to get defensive. You asked a question in the title of your thread, I answered it. Then you asked me a question directly, and I answered it.

    So you basically decided to have an eating disorder? Cool…

    People who do this ultimately destroy their natural eating tendencies and have to reprogram their hunger and relationships with food… what you describe is similar to how I fell into anorexia as a teen…

    I remember lying to myself that I was just ‘challenging myself’ to see how low my calories could go… how long I could go without eating… getting a sick sense of accomplishment from starving myself… such a slippery slope.

    Dude, seriously, you didn't increase your strength.
    You probably started working out with a sub-optimal weight and did some "progress" which is not actually progress because you could bench those 40 kg before.
    Eat more foods: tuna, eggs, vegetables, fruits, lean meats, healthy fats bla bla bla

    Unfortunately, I can't help but agree.

    To OP, just be reasonably active, find out what your TDEE is with that as part of the equation, and eat reasonably close to that in either a surplus, maintenance, or deficit accordingly depending on your goal while doing resistance training. There's no solid long-term sense to trying something overly restrictive. You'll just rebound or, even if you can sustain it for a decently long while, have no energy to properly train or have normal health as you do.
