    Good CHEAP home gym!

Hi guys, do any of you expereinced fellas and gals have a suggestion for a decent full body piece of equipment for home usage? I was really looking ath the top of the line bowflex as it seems to do it all, but man, I just don't have $3K. What do you suggest? TIA!

Yes, a power rack and a bench. There aren't many exercises I can't do with it. Versatile, safe, cheap (I think I paid about $700 10 years ago). Mine has a cable for, well, cable exercises (lat pulldowns, ab pulldowns, lo rows, etc), an incline, decline bench with preacher curl and leg attachments, and a dips attachment... most of which I don't use very often. Except when I am really mixing up my workouts, I stick to the basics: squats, presses, deadlifts, cable rows.

If I had joined a gym, I would have spent that amount at least 10 times over by now!

I am just now contemplating getting an ab bench too.

I wish I could find a life fitness elliptical for that price. They are the only ellipticals I like

    Hey Buddy!

Wanting to start working out at home instead of the gym? I got a Powertec power rack with lat attachment (truthfully the lat attachment is not all that necessary) a bench and a 300# olympic weight set for about $1000. You can find the stuff fro much less on craigslist if you're not in a huge hurry and don't have your heart set on a specific brand. I knew that this was stuff I only needed to purchase once and didn't mind spending a bit to get exactly what I wanted.

I LOVE it. One of the best things I've ever bought.

I know what you mean, Shelley. They're the ones I got used to at my gym, and I really like the feel. So I thought, hey, maybe one for the home instead? I couldn't believe that the gym models were upwards of $4K!!! Life Fitness makes home versions, and some with fewer bells and whistles, but they're still expensive. My advice - keep watching Craigslist. Once in a while a real bargain shows up. Then be prepared to act fast!

I watch ebay, ( too many people see that one) and the paper, and craigs list. no luck so far. BUt any other models seem to hurt my knees and not feel smooth.

This is your body you are talking about. Yes, a good value is great, but don't sacrifice on the build quality and functional use of the equipment you buy. You will probably want something that can grow with you over the years and not put you at risk for injury. Buy smart, not cheap.
