Pantera, 'Reinventing the Steel'...
I swear they had lifting heavy in mind when they went into the studio. Everything from the title of the album, to the songs themselves just scream (literally),"LIFT THAT EFFING WEIGHT!!".
Lyrics that hit me at the right time while working out:
Hellbound
Born to a world so young and proud
But over your head hangs a black cloud
Grow your hair and crawl inside yourself
Because there you cannot hide
Facing fears that youll overcome and one
Of these years you know youve won
Goddamn Electric
Dont waste your time, embrace it
And then youll know yourself
The change in you is goddamn electric
The weight of the world has lifted and parted
My eyes roll blind to sights that distracted
Through tunnel-vision and dope-hair blinders
Ill cut a path and evoke my will
Yesterday Don't Mean ****
(I like this one as it pertains to last week's workout)
Whats over is over and nothing between
Yesterday dont mean ****
Because tomorrows the day you have to face
Theres no rewinding time
Yesterday dont mean ****
Revolution is My Name
(this is my theme song for life)
Should my eyes open for tomorrow?s gains?
I can't help the way I am
There's no trust and there's no end
What is my name?
It will never change
So here it stays
Forever is my name
From now on, can't look the other way
Keep in mind and listen to what I say
Take under wing all the ones who are lost
Build up around them an infinite wall
Don't you know just who I am?
Take the hand of wisdom's friend
What is my name?
Those are just the first 5 songs. This album will put 10 to 20 pounds on your max.

I never was a fan of how Dime's tone got dirtier and dirtier as their career progressed. it was like a razor on cowboys and i thought it kinda spilled everywhere by the time reinventing came around.

The main riff to this tune is one of favorites of all time. Black Sabbath does this awesome as well but Dime took it a new level, no pun intended for you VDOP fans!

It gets better
OK, we all know that Pantera ruled the world when they were together. God knows I still jam to EVERY single one of their albums. But what about Super Joint Ritual? If you have not checked it out, you should. Phil carries it on with lyrics like:
1. Everyone Hates Everyone
Mind is a freeze, from me, from you, from shock
There is no sanctuary, you want to do this...right now
Your blank look tells me, you're not to thrilled at all
To stand here face-to-face with me
You want to stab at me, right now, not tomorrow
'Cause there's a fine line between me and them
Call it a rift
2. F**k Your Enemy
The dumb ones rise to salute the queer
Another dreary (outlook), people fearing
Dick the system, screw the city
Forget you were, forget you were
Die when you can do no more damage
Ahhhh, how I love the aggression.

Ah...Vulgar Display of Power. Yeah.
Far Beyond Driven is going to be next up on my lineup...after I wear myself out on Steel.
I agree that Reinventing the Steel isn't one of their best albums. I mean, if I were to try to turn somoene on to Pantera, it wouldn't be the cd I'd choose to pull out. The nice thing about Steel is that it just kind of went unlistened to by me through the years, so really, the only association I have with it is lifting.
Cowboys, for example, has way too many associations for me to listen to in the weight room. I'd start to think about other stuff besides focusing on lifting that heavy ass weight.
Besides, once Cemetery Gates comes on, it would kill it for me. The nice thing about Steel is that there aren't really any "light" songs. Well, you know..."light" by Pantera standards.

their best and most aggressive album is great southern trendkill. By far! Craziest screaming, awesome breakdowns, killer production. Perfect metal album that should be owned by all.

Reinventing the Steel is really underrated overall, and by Pantera fans for some reason. It definitely starts off stronger than it finishes, but there are some fantastic songs on there. Yesterday Don't Mean **** is in their top five songs imo.

That's another Pantera album that kind of passed by me. For some reason, I just didn't care much for it when it came out. It's been a few years since I gave it a listen though, so it may strike me differently this time around.
(pm me your myspace name...I'm particular about who I add).

I usually have my workout done before the cd is over. I'm hardly familiar with the last couple of songs, actually. ha.

I place Far Beyond Driven as my favorite album for the aggression. Souther Trendkill seems disjointed and sporadic, didnt focus much.

All their albums are awesome.. I cant name a weak one...
I heard soo many people saying how Reinventing... is back, but once i actualy bought it, i was like "wooow!!?" this stuff not only suprised me but i realised it was actualy an awesome album. I dont know where all the "dislike" for the later Pantera albums comes from.. To me personaly they're all awesome. The later work may be a bit different but still 100% Pantera.
Anyone listen to Down?? Phils main band now. Its great stuff aswell.

Far Beyond Driven is my fav Pantera cd. I love 5 Min Alone and I'm Broken. Five Min Alone is my fav Pantera song. I also like ****ing Hostile , By demons Be Driven, and The War from Vulgar. When i lift i like to listen to Pantera, Lamb of God, Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy and some other bands. HateBreed is also good for a workout. Hard, heavy music makes for hard, heavy workouts.

"we'll grind that axe for a long time is an awesome lifting song, it just seems to get me going. My favorite album of their's (been a fan a long, long time) is definitely Far beyond driven. Slaughtered and Throes of Rejection are freakin' bad@$$ songs as well.

I live in Columbus where dime was shot. I have played on that stage before. Pantera is king for lifting music. That, and selected Black Label Society tunes. Excellent taste Mountain Man!!!

I admit to underrating it too. It is a very lift friendly album - intense comes to mind. I don't have a favorite Pantera album but if I was to recommend someone listen to their music I would suggest [ southern trend kill & far beyond driven ]. Far beyond driven is very much like reinventing the steel IMO, it's tough balls to the wall groove metal sound that pantera was much loved for. Southern trend kill has some more darker and slower elements to it like suicidal note Pt. 1 then you get ****ing smashed by one of their heaviest composites Pt. 2.

The razor sharp riffs were a spin off from his 'hair metal days'. You can see the whole band changing throughout their career. Phils vocals got more screamier, vinnies drumming had more faster pace drumming with the introduction of double kicking and rex it's hard to tell because he was like the shadow in the band. I think he started to use distortion on his bass lines.

I must respectfully disagree...neither "Metal Magic", "Projects in the Jungle" nor "I am the Night" have razor sharp riffing of the nature we hear in Cowboys.
"Power Metal" has some good riffs - and certainly paved the way for the oncoming assault...but it also put an end to Pantera's spandex days!! Thank the lord...

Reinventing the Steel is the "worst" Pantera album but still better than 98% of the **** out there.
Some of those songs have the heaviest breakdowns ever like II'll Cast a Shadow, which gets orgasmic around 2:20.
