here's what I have heard ( key word HEARD ) :
On average the most Whey protein someone can absorb at one time is about 20 grams. If this is true then why do some supplement companies make their protein powders contain 40, 50 or more grams of whey per serving? Wouldn't half of that be going to waste? Also, would a protein powder such as ISS's Pro M3 , which contains Whey, Cassein and Egg protein, for a total of 50 grams of protein be better since all 50 grams will be absorbed and used by the body?
First, the quotient of absoprtion is untrue. There is no such mythical limit to what the body absorbs; some versions of this legend place it at 30, 40, or now 20. Ignore this kind of hysteria; one study found total absorption of over 200 grams consumed in one sitting.
Second, I prefer protein blends over whey by itself, except for post-workout (and then I use Surge anyway). The very thing companies brag about for whey isolate ("Absorbs in less than 20 minutes! wow!!") is the precise reason I don't like it! I don't want a surging spike of aminso and nitrogen; I want a slow, sustained supply of protein for my body to last the duration between meals. Whey, egg and casein do this nicely. That measn better digestion anyway, and a more solid supply of protein over 2-3 hours.
Yeah, I've been discussing this whey situation on another forum. I think the whey madness has to stop. The whole craze is based on the BV rating crap where everyone was competing to put the best numbers on the label.
Lets see the supp companies using some real science to make good sustained release blends instead of just the 100% whey brands that proliferate right now.
