Thanks for the compliments. Sorry for the delayed responses. My Fed was the U.S.A.P.L. I was disqualified from a trophy or placing but they let me finish out my meet.
Advice for first timers? Im full of it.
One of my major mistakes was thinking I had to be completely jacked out of my mind and just go out there and kill my squats. What I should have done was kept my head straight and pay attention with more patience. Thats what killed me I was in my own head and not giving enough attention to the judges and what I was supposed to be doing.
Go watch at least one full powerlifting meet before you compete. It will give you a better idea of exactly what the judges are looking for and you will be able to learn the commands and the flow of things. I didn't do this and messed up the commands.
Train with the commands. This is important because if while your squatting/benching/deadlifting you get yourself set, in position then give yourself or have your partner give you the commands you will be ready to follow them in competition.
Commands:
Squat: You unrack, get yourself set, refs hands will go down and he will say lift, Take your time and breath or do what you do before you squat. Squat, come back up and pause, Ref will give rack command, walk weight back in.
Bench: Set your arch, unrack, ref will give lift command, bring weight down, pause, ref will give press command, press, pause, ref will give rack command, rack.
Deadlift: set up you grip/foot position, ref will give no command, Lift to full lock out, ref will give down command, set weight down with control.
Listen to the more experienced lifters when they are giving you helpful hints.
Hope this helps any other questions I am more than willing to help any way I can.
