Graduate Students
I didn't see a thread for grad. students, so I thought I'd start one. I'm a 26 yr. old female, going to Boston University. I am studying International Relations, specializing in security studies. I work full-time as a paralegal / office manager & go to school part-time. I should graduate sometime in 2008.
My undergraduate degree was in History, from St. Anselm College in Manchester, NH.
How 'bout you?

I'm working on a MS in Electrical Engineering at the University of South Carolina, and I'm on active duty in the Navy. Working out has been a part of the daily routine for so long that grad school hasn't really interfered with that part. What bugs me the most is that it is enough work already planning and preparing meals for a full day's work, then you have to somehow work meals around classes in the evening too. The day becomes long. I look forward to finishing in December.

I completely agree w/ you re: meal planning. I use Fitday; it's helped me a lot. Are you going into the Navy as a career?

Wow. Ph.D. in Aerospace Eng. That's very impressive. What do you want to do following your graduation?

thanks for the encouragement...planning on moving out west and working on systems integration for Boeing, but that's a few years away. What about yourself?
I third the meal planning, everyday just seems to be so different that preparing and eating is all over the place.

Then, it's off the Law School.

I've used fitday, and when I've been active with it I've also been eating well, so I guess I know what I need to do.
I don't know how long I'll be in the Navy. Until I have the guts to move to Vegas and play poker for a living.
I get that question a lot and it still seems funny to ask if I'm going to retire at my current job when I'm only 25. Where do you work? Do you plan to retire there?

I'm currently the head paralegal @ a solo immigration law firm. No, I don't plan on retiring there. I love my job, but I don't want to go into law; I want to do politics / intern'l relations. But I get along w/ my boss (the attorney) and it pays my way through my part-time grad. studies.

Yeah, I usually drive out from L.A. to North Carolina, but ship my car back in the summer. It can be a hassle, but the school is worth it.

I'd really like to be an aide to a Congressman or Senator in some international relations capacity at this point. Part of me would love to run for office myself, but I don't know if I have what it takes to be a politician. I tend to be blunt and I'm firm in my beliefs...I find it hard to compromise on them. I like to say what I think! I want to get involved somehow in security.

Wow
That's quite ambitious! What kind of law do you want to do? I'm a paralegal at a law firm full-time right now.

Hehe its really easy, Accounting is all about managing information, the math is all simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, division. Its the job people don't want to do because you have to know how to look up information and keep on top of current regulations and control information correctly, but its really not as hard as people think, BUT it is just as boring as everyone says it is lol. Thats why im going for a change with an MBA in international business to find a different career/job I like, don't really know what kind of jobs are out there for international business students but Im still going for it hehe.

Agreed. Good to see some more like-minded folks out there.
I'm a 25 y/o MBA student at VCU. Did my undergrad at Virginia Tech, earned a B.S. in Marketing Management. I used to manage a gym and currently work as a personal trainer. Would love to find a way to merge my passion for business with fitness when I'm done.
ps-polinutrigirl, I worked as a legislative aide for a brief period on "the Hill" thinking I wanted to get into the political arena as well. I quickly learned that all politicians come from either a) money or b) fame and decided starting at the bottom wasn't for me. If politics is truly your passion, I wish you the best of luck. Hopefully you'll fair better than I did

We grad. students need to support each other. It's difficult (for me) to work full-time, go to school part-time and still make time for the gym, extracurriculars, seeing friends. But work/school/gym are all important to me, so I just make it work.
