How ridiculous is that?
How many people even KNOW how to properly use a gun, especially college students?
On top of that the article says, "Brent Tenney says he feels pretty safe when he goes to class at the University of Utah, but he takes no chances. He brings a loaded 9 mm semiautomatic with him every day."
Wow, thanks for announcing to the whole world that Brent Tenney carries around a 9 mm semiautomatic. What is this world coming to!?

who the hell brings a gun to campus? I mean there has been 2, maybe 3 shootings at a university? (correct me if i am wrong) I mean damn, that is paranoid! the chances of ever having to use a gun are less than the chanced your gonna hurt yourself/somone else accidentally. WoWWWW
but it is his legal right so there is nothing wrong with it. Just think hes a bit too paranoid.

You are an idealist. Not a realist. You really have no freaking idea what is really going on out there do you?
Anti-gun people tend to forget that anything can happen these days. Anyone can be a maniac with a gun. Creating gun free zones only affects people who follow the rules. The bad gusy do NOT FOLLOW THE RULES. Gun free zones are a BAD idea!!!
Just because that sort of thing does not happen near you does not mean it will not happen. How many times did Columbine get shot up? Was it like seven times? I mean, if it got shot up seven times, then you would think that they would have put armed guards at that school.
They didn't have guards because it has never happened before. Unpredictable.Mark these words in the annals (no homo) of bodybuilding.com.

So many WHOLE European countries don't even have as many shootings as New York City alone does? Why? Because guns aren't legal there. Don't tell me its just a coincidence. Are they all idealists? Yes, no.. doesn't matter. People aren't getting shot there. Just look at the statistics. I understand that as Americans, its supposedly "American" to have guns and making them illegal would just make us look like hypocrites. But please, look at the statistics. I'm sure people would rather feel a little less "American" than have their children shot to death.

Please take the time to learn about a topic before making a thread like this. . .
In direct answer to your question, every person issued a concealed carry permit by the state of Utah KNOWs how to properly handle their firearm:
Minimum requirements for application for a concealed firearms permit in Utah are:
- Applicant must be at least 21 years of age
- Proof of good character...whereas the applicant;
-- has not been convicted of a felony;
-- has not been convicted of any crime of violence;
-- has not been convicted of any offense involving the use of alcohol;
-- has not been convicted of any offenses involving the unlawful use of narcotics or other controlled substances;
-- has not been convicted of any offenses involving moral turpitude;
-- has not been convicted of any offense involving domestic violence;
-- has not been adjudicated by a court of a state or of the United States as mentally incompetent, unless the adjudication has been withdrawn or reversed
- A criminal background check is conducted for all applicants
- Applicants must complete a firearms familiarity course certified by BCI. The course must be completed before you apply for a permit
This isn't some wild-west stereotype where anyone standing on a campus can suddenly own a weapon without restriction. Standard licensing and other background requirements must still be met.Last edited by nutsy54; 04-27-2007 at 06:42 PM.

What happens when a student gets mad at a prof for giving him/her a bad grade?
What happens if a prof goes crazy? I don't trust people, people do stupid things when they are angry.
But if Utah students like it then I love it. That's there perogative.Beautiful

Believe it or not, millions of people carry a concealed weapon every day, and they manage not to go on shooting sprees at the slightest provocation. That's like saying "don't let college students have cars, they could get pissed and drive into a crowd at the Student Union" <-- an incident which has occured.

And you were nothing but great to your ho, and you told her that she was the only ho for you. And that she was better than all the other hoes in the world. And then suddenly...she's not yo' ho no mo'.

Yes and those 2 or 3 you are talking about would never went as far as they did if there were other people carrying weapons. After something happens it is to late, you can not change the past. Utah realizes this and I applaud them for that. People should change before a tragedy happens, not wait until it does.

What I wanna know is if for some reason say the person carrying a gun got into an argument with someone else and a fight ensued. And the guy with the gun was getting the crap beat out of him... I wonder if he would pull out the gun?
edit: For clarification I'm on the fence about the whole gun law issue. I understand where both sides are coming from and just haven't really made up my mind yet.Last edited by twiddyINC; 04-27-2007 at 07:09 PM.
