pain in the neck
Yesterday i was in the shower and all of a sudden a sharp pain is shooting down my neck and right trap. After a while the pain is still there when i turn my head to the right and i get a numb/tingling feeling in my right are and hand. I went to hospital and the doctor said I just have a stiff muscle in my neck, as soon as i mentioned it had a sharp pain in it.
Iam kind of thinking its a pinched nerve but Iam not sure, any ideas?

Nah, you need to suffer a big shock to the area to have a pinched nerve, Such as sleeping with your entire body weight on one arm, or a 50kg weight falling on your foot. It's probably a sprained muscle just as the doctor said.

Can you think of anything that might of caused it? Maybe you were straining while lifting the day before or slept awkwardly. Try stretching your neck for a while so at least you know your muscles aren't stiff and see if that relieves any of the pain. I get the same thing every once in a while but stretching my neck for a couple minutes and a hot shower normally relieves some of the pain from turning my head.

i cant think of anything that i did to cause it, it was alright then all of a sudden it hit,
I cant stretch my neck either cause the pain is so bad that i cant move it far enought to stretch. It doesnt feel like something to do with muscle soreness.

i am currently undergoing something similar man.. i think i strained my neck but it only hurts when i try to lift (mostly compound stuff).. it went away for a week then came back.. and when it came back.. it was twice as worse hurting NO MATTER what lift i was doing. its not a sharp pain, more like an indescribable back of the head/neck ache where the blood rushes up the veins or whatever and hurts like HELL. you find urself holding ur neck hoping u can continue. I am doing a navy physical screen test tommorow then i am talk 8 days straight off doing absolutely no physical activity and taking two aleve a day. My friend had this same problem it is caused from improper breathing and a very high amount of stress thrown onto the backside neck muscles at one time (pullups are the worst for this, as you have to "chicken neck" your chin over the bar holding your weight up).
i suggest u take a couple weeks off.

It sounds like it could be a pinched nerve. But a pull or sprain might be possible as well. Take a couple weeks off, and maybe check with the doc again.

just let it recover for a week and see if it's any better - no point aggravating it further
