I'm having an issue with sleep
I thought this was due to taking thermogenics, but now that I've cut them out, I still have a hard time getting to sleep. Not only that, but once I fall asleep, I will wake up after two or three hours, and be up for the day.
Has anyone tried melatonin? How did it work for you? 1mg or 3mg? Do I have any other options? (no narcotics though because of the job I have)
Thanks!

thats kinda scary that the only thing keeping u from narcotics is the job u have um, i have used melatonin before. it works great at putting u out but it does not keep u out. ZMA doesnt help put u out but it keeps u out. so i would combine the two. i dont remember what does of melatonin i took, but i got used to it after a while. i dont take anything anymore, i just start "trying" to sleep earlier than i used to.

Melatonin or Valerian Root should work wonders for you. I'd start with the lowest dose possible and if it doesn't do enough, bump it up a bit. No reason to start out high, but either of them could be exactly what you're looking for.

Melatonin works for alot fo people. I'm currently taking 200mg of theanine which helps me personally. I plan to try Relax All next and see how it works for sleep as I've heard good things about it.

Relax All isn't bad at all. I use it sometimes a few hours before bed and it helps.

if you can keep the same schedule every day of the week(wake up and go to bed at same time) that helps.
try doing cardio right when you get up. make sure you dont nap during the day. when you get tired in the day walk around, do pushups, or something.
for supplements, try zma(helps me a little), melatonin makes me dopey for an hour or two, but i will wake up later, and maybe valerian root(makes youfeel like crap in the morning) after that i would suggest talking to a doc about sleep apnea

400-500 mgs of Magnesium before bed should help you fall asleep naturally and stay asleep. It works for most people and is so cheap its worth a try. If that doesn't work you may want to move up to a herbal sleep blend, probably containing valerian/chamomile/passionflower ect. These can be found in pill or tea form.
And if that doesn't work consider melatonin. I say try melatonin last because it is the stongest. It does have benefits but most people notice that it wears off after a few days/weeks. It is great health wise, but I think the 2 above options are better to look at first.

Seems to me you just have a very stressful job. and its the course of your sleep problem.
Long hrs and shift patterns can do this. Maybe also your social life and how your job is affecting it could also be an issue.
I would not take anything at this moment.
Try take up yogy or look into relaxation classes that may help you get a better nights sleep.
Get to the root of the problem no pills needed at this moment
good luck.

I'd try to ZMA thing, some people respond really well, while others don't. I've tried it, and usually when I'm fighting a cold or something I have a lot of trouble getting to sleep but the ZMA knocks me out really fast, plus the general effect is that your mood is given a boost. It's worth a try, and usually comes cheap. I have mine in bulk zinc, magnesium, and vitamin c, and I match the doses to that on the Optimum Nutrition ZMA.

same issue i had when i was working with thermos...it was like my body got used to only getting 2-3 hours of sleep a night for an entire month. melatonin worked for me, but in a way it still took a little while to kick in....and for me once it did i had a real tough time waking up in the morning and not being groggy from it. everyones body is different so it might take a little experimentation with the dosage. in a way, its almost like youre still ON the thermos even when youre not so finding different ways to relax your mind for me was most important.
i will tell you this though that once i was off the thermos and my body and mind were used to normal sleeping patterns, i honestly have the best sleep now. i have no idea if thats what its truly from but i used to be a real light sleeper and now i can get a good solid 5-7 and be ready to go!
good luck!

I have been using ZMA, and it works like a dream ( literally) for me. I get a great night's sleep, and wake up feeling rested. I never wake up during the night, and fall asleep fast. NOW, makes a really good and inexpensive ZMA

theanine is great for helping relax, but does nto put you to sleep at all. melatonin helps you get to sleep, but it doesnt do crap for staying asleep.
right now i take both and still wake up 2-3 hours later, then fall asleep for anohter 1-3 hours, and then sleep for another 1-2. its not helping my life....i am almost tempted to take melatonin each time i wake up.

I also have trouble falling asleep many nights out of the week.
I have found that Melatonin works great for me most nights, but there are some nights where I feel like it does nothing.

Do you drink coffee at all?
I used to have this same problem and I tried a couple of different sleeping pills and nothing really worked. I realized later that I was drinking too much coffee in the mornings and that would affect my sleep at night.
You could also try a glass of wine an hour or so before bed, that helps too and its good for you.
Try to look at everything you eat and drink during the day before taking any pills...it could just be something you're sensative to and might not even know it.

Theanine is really great for stress and anxiety, but can actually interfere with sleep in some people. Try a wee bit of GABA and Inositol before bed.

Try 3mg melatonin, and 25mg benadryl. Also, add some ZMA. You'll sleep well. Only use it for a couple weeks until your sleep patterns are normal again.

Dude I once worked nights in a mental institution and could not get my sleep pattern down and melatonin worked great. For the most part it help regulate my sleep pattern, its not a sleepn pill. I would take it as soon as i got home before i started my sleep ritual, u know, takin a shower brushn my teeth things like that, and by the time i laid down i was out, awake 6-8 hrs later ready for class, i used twin labs 2mg, picked up at my local grocery store, the one bottle i bought lasted forever

Hey I was on Melatonin 3 for about a month. Took a few days for it to work for me but it absolutely helped me stay asleep. It did not, however, help me fall asleep. I've dealt with insomnia for the better part of my adult life so I feel your pain. Funny thing though is that I eventually developed dark circles under my eyes (even though I was sleeping better) which subsided once I stopped using it. Good luck.

I had this same problem, working til 10PM and hitting the gym at like 11. Couldn't fall asleep afterwards until 5AM. Started to take GABA and it is AMAZING. I have a crapload of energy throughout the day. Only thing is it makes you tingle a bit and feel a bit fuzzy and gives you some CRAZY dreams.
