When to Carb up around photoshoot
Quick question...I just started a CKD diet earlier this week. My carb-up is currently scheduled for Friday night and Saturday, but I have a photoshoot for some fitness modeling stuff on Saturday. So my question is when should I schedule my carb-up based on this? Will my muscles look fuller pre-carb up, during the carb-up day, or post-carb-up?
I'm assuming the answer is that they'd look much fuller the day after a carb-up, but would I be sacraficing definition, just asking because I need my abs to look as ripped as they usually do...

Dont take this from me, but maybe some more experienced people but let me chime in.
I perfer to carbup for a day, and tend not to eat carbs the night before. If you eat the night before it is stored in your body.
Also, i dont really like what i look like when i carbup.. i look.. well bloated..
anyways, let some more experienced people chime in

Generally you'll look best just after your carb-up. Pre-carb up, you'll look small and flat and generally crap. Afterwards your muscles should be swollen and pretty.

I Agree With Eileen. I Look And Feel My Leanest After My Carb Up. Everyone's Different Though. I Heard Some Folks Get Bloated And Feel Gassy. If You Haven't Carbed Up Before, You May Want To Wait To See How It Affects You.

Wow, a real-life model. I just looked at your bodyblog pics, and I am actually mad at you right now, lol.
Barring my hatred for people who look like you, I'd have to say that I look pretty good after a "healthy" carb up. When I over-binge, I do get bloated, but a healthy oatmeal and yam carb up makes me look like a million bucks the next day. Before the carb-up, I look kinda flat and sickly, during the carb-up my chest and stomach stick out due to the sheer volume of food I've taken in, and post (healthy) carb up I look swole and vascular.

I appreciate the info. My carb-up will be mainly healthy (Special K Red Berries + Skim Milk, Oatmeal w/ Brown Sugar, Brown Rice, low fat ice cream, some cinnamon raisin bread, along with eggwhites, chicken breast, and tuna for protein)
No need to hate haha, I wasn't one of those "lucky" people that didn't have to work for it. I've been on strict bulking then cutting diets and workouts since early November '06 to get in the shape I'm in now, and still feel I have ALOT of room to improve.

Yeah immediately upon carbing up I feel bloated and whatnot, but today I feel pretty normal and there's only a small amount of definition gone from my abs.
Perhaps you could carb up and also chuck some water weight out the window to keep the ab definition there, perhaps even sharper. Though the dehydration might be detrimental for your face, or create too much vascularity, etc.
This would be a question to ask a experienced bodybuilder. If anyone knows how to keep full muscles and retain razor-sharp definition it's them.

Personally I get gassy and bloated during and after carb-ups and my carb ups are far from large.
Maybe that's my problem. I should gorge more

Hmm, that just may be the safest route. If you carb up way before your shoot, get lotsa glucose, then you may get the advantage of pumped up muscles without any risk of any residual bloating...
And I was just kidding about the hate (jealousy, maybe :P)...you guys are one of the many reasons I push myself every day. BTW, what did you look like before you were bodybuilding for the modeling market? That would be very interesting; you always see these guys on packets of tidy whities, but you never know what they were like before.

It's funny actually, about four years ago I was all of 5'10" 140lb. then I got serious about lifting and got up to 6' 194lb. (I was bulking on my way up to 220) when I got hooked up with an agent who suggested cutting up. Now I'm down to 6' 175lb. and very ripped. So yeah, it's been an interesting transformation so far.
