Alright take lean body cookies and cream protein bar for example. Its got like 30g of protein (casien, hydrolyzed whey, and 1 other good source i think) 8g of fat and like 4g of sat fat. I think net carbs is like 10. Anyway, If you read the nutrition label like all the fat and sat fat(hydrolyized oil) comes from the coating.. I took the coating off today completely and the bar still tasted awsome. Now why can't they just make a protein bar like this? 30g of protein 1g of fat and low carbs... I know they put the coating on there to make the bar taste "awsome" but it just makes the bar less healthy for you. Also take a detour bar for example if you eat the bar without the chocolate coating it still tastes awsome and you probably reducing 8g of fat and 6 sat fat. Anyone with me on this?

First off, soy protein isn't as quality as whey or casein but at least it is not collagen.
Secondly, 34 grams of low GI carbs, 9 of which are fiber, are not a lot of carbs at all. Whether you are bulking, cutting, or maintaining, your body and more importantly, your brain, needs carbs to function properly.
Lastly, I am in no way saying this is the perfect bar. However, it is a lot better than most bars I have seen or consumed. But to tell you the truth, I rarely rely on bars. Maybe once every month, if that. There is no better subsitition for food, than food itself.
Good luck finding the "perfect" bar. I would attempt making one yourself if you haven't already. At least you'll know what's in it.
P.S. I'm not sure w/ this specific bar, but the peanut flavored bars get a majority of its fat from nuts and canola oil. By the way, 10 gr. of fat is less than a handful of nuts or about 90 cals.Last edited by newps34; 03-11-2004 at 08:26 PM.
