    Unhappy lump in lower back

ok, so i've been having some lower back pain lately, nothing excruciating, but enough to make me groan when i bend over to pick up my backpack. i'm pretty sure i hurt the muscles a little squatting.

so, when i'm standing up straight, i can't feel any lump in my back, but if i bend over to touch my toes, there's a hard (cartilage texture) lump on the right side of my spine, just above my hip. it doesn't really hurt to push on it, and it doesn't move around at all, but i'm a little worried about it. it's about as big as a shooter marble.

has this happened to anyone before? any ideas what the lump could be?

sounds similar to my condition. I had a lower back strain that occured twice a year ago... the result was lumps of scar tissue on both sides of my back right where my love handles are. Stretch, and cross frictional massage will make it go away eventually, if its scar tissue. It's not as flexible as muscle so when you bend it will cause pain.

It might be a lipoma. I've got one on my back about the size of an egg. It's a non-cancerous tumor.

I'd get any lump you notice checked out asap though.

go to doctor. they will order x-ray and ct scan and/or do biopsy to determine with certainty what the lump contains.
