Lets Get Drunk???
I have a drinking dilema...I like to go out pretty often 1-3 times/week and when i do I tend to get, well wasted. So If i'm drinking half a fifth or a bit more I know Im loading on the calories and that alcoholcals go right to fat (hello freshman 15 explanation) anyways I tend not to eatatall the day I'm drinking so the alcohol hits me harder- i drink less and I know i'm kepping my cals low I also hit the gym like a madman the next morning. All this said I was wondering how much everyone else drinks and how they think it effects their shape. I reallywanna get more cut but at the same time I want to get in better shape so when i go to the bars I can wear hot outfits so if I cut out drinking altogether its contradictory to my ultimate goal.
I dont know let me know what you think

i think your diet probably sucks, specially if you are not eating at all before you go drinking. I am willing to bet that what you do eat is garbage as well.
Getting wasted 3 times a week is very counter to your goals of looking good. Wasted multiple times a week is NOT moderation. You will never look as good or feel as good as somebody that takes their regimen a bit more seriously.
For every 3 steps forward you take, you are taking at least 2 steps backwards.

come on now, whats even the point of getting wasted so often? I guess I just wont ever get that. Anyway you should always keep a good healthy diet even if you are drinking that night, but I def think you should cut it down. And hey! you dont have to be "drunk" to show off your body, you can go out and not drink and have the best body there. good luck

Sounds pretty horrible. Starving your body then feeding it alcohol.
Decide what is more important to you.
When I get back from deployment I plan on going out for moderate drinking every couple weeks. I think that is reasonable

It depends on your goals...and it seems you want muscle, because you want to get "cut" which is simply acquring some muscle mass with low enough bodyfat. It's a sacrifice: go out drinking once every couple of weeks, you can't be doing it 3x a week
What exactly are your goals....if its just to not be fat...then that's a different story

well if you don't eat the days you drink then your just telling your body to store some energy (put on fat) for the next time around.
Spread your whole calories over a week and eat less calories each days to even out with your drinking. Don't forget to eat lots of raw greens to purify your system from all that bad drinking...
Have fun! drink! do what you have to do at your age. keep a solid foot in the fitness world. Once you get tired of the bar scene at least you'll be ahead of all the others (drinkers).

i haven't been going out that much but finals are coming up soon so this week ill be going out 2-3 times, my usually calorie intake needs to be 2500-3000, so when i go out drinking i usually like to have atleast 1500 good calories in me... I dont really eat bad food that much so it cant hurt a ton although it does slow progress. The only bad thing is when i drink i will eat pretty much anything in sight lol

Good call on the alcohol induced food benders Matt. I hear ya on that one. I remember eating an entire large bag of potato chips playing poker at 5a.m. I was so freaking dehydrated from the alcohol and sodium....aaargh. Not good business.
To the original poster.....you're a very pretty girl. If you want to stay that way....you should probably tone down the drinking a bit. When i was 19-21, i used to drink and smoke pot daily. I stayed in shape because I was....19-21. At 22, you can still do this stuff without it having a major effect on your appearance. Unless you're lucky and have a great metabolism into your 30's, get ready for a BIG reality check. When i say big....i'm referring to how you're gonna get. You probably can get away with it now, but it will catch up to you sooner than you think.
Around age 23 i really slowed down the drinking and weed. I occasionally still smoke, and only drink heavily on special occasions. (Tigers, Packers, Pistons games) and on holiday weekends when all my friends are around. If you want to get in the shape you desire, you're gonna have to eat instead of starving yourself and lay off the booze 3x a week. Best of luck.

for a girl that just wants to stay in shape, and have good times, you actually have a good game plan.
It really is calories in vs calories out
Now however, this is not healthy, you will not get stronger out leaner by any means, but atleast you realize the effects alcohol can have when its comes to gaining weight.
'
Honestly dont do it 3 times a week, do it 2, and when you do it, try and eat atleast something that day, you wont gain that much fat.

What I hate is people who can do this kind of **** and get away with it.
One friend of mine (who I don't hang around anymore) smokes cigs, weed, drinks beer like it's water, does other drugs, parties all the time and eats the tiniest, most pathetic little meals ever and yet he still can run like a horse and maintain very low body fat, and even though he has no shoulders and should have more muscle in proportion to his height, he still has an amount of muscle that most people would have to diet properly and exercise to maintain.
Or people who are naturally wide and big who would probably be HUGE if they even lifted, never mind dieting properly, but they never do they just eat garbage and live like **** and then wonder why they're not more "in shape". You know, those guys who walk around with tight shirts 'cause they look "buff", but really there's quite a bit of fat on top of their muscle and that's what makes them look big. Thing is they would have much more muscle and less fat if they tweaked their diets even a little, but no they'de rather get wasted every night.
Or people who can lift an insane amount even though they don't do ****.
I hate those people and their wasted genetics lol

Hey those whose had actual advise thanks, as for those who just are hating on me, well I would say **** off but you are entitled to your opinion. Another note I obviously know what I'm doing is wrong or I wouldn't have asked the question...I mean no need to go all movie of the week on me people, haha.
I already decided that I'm gonna cut down my partying to 1-2 times a week and relax on how much I drink in a sitting. I was more looking for what other people's lifestyles look like as a comparartive reference...compared to most my friends I'm an angel- I lift 4 week, do an hour of cardio a day, and I don't "eat ****", I am a vegetarian and almost never eat anything but clean foods except for hot cocoa.
Still looking for what other peoples social lives look like, so let me know

sweetie, you can have a social life without drinking your face off. Bottom line, you're 22, and IMO you should grow out of the drinking phase. I know drinking is fun, but so is living healthy and seeing changes in your body. What's even better is when your ex-drinking friends actually comment on changes they see in your physique...it makes it all worth while in the end.
Best of luck

Im getting a sadistic pleasure at slowly seeing my friends who had previously drunk/smoke/ate/partied liek animals have their lifestyles catch up with them. The guts are slowly growing, the eyes are slowly drooping, they all seem to be getting sick very often - fact is, it isnt a sustainable lifestyle, you'll still be alive, you will still function pretty well, but the little things are going to get worse.

I'm so confused by the "grow out of the drininking phase". I just started drinking 2 years ago, not even. I never even went in a bar before I was 21 and my freshman soph years of college I was on the track team so I never even drank. guess I'm wondering why everyone is being so hard on me. I mean once I have to work full time and get married have kids I wont be going out at all so isnt this the time in my life I'm suppossed to have fun? I don't know I guess I'm just shocked at all of the negativity about my lifestyle, I mean I do keep my life balanced between full time school with a double major: excercise science and nutrition a part time job and the little free time I have I like to live it up.

ok, i think I see what your after:
Yes go out drinking, its fine, party on!
What does it matter what others are doing? Your obviously happy with what your doing and are willing to cut it back a little which is great, but drinking is still going to be bad for you. Whether the benefits of a night out outweigh the negatives on body composition/health/fitness is something for you to decide.
Im inclined to say a night out a week isnt a huge deal. Exersise some restraint, perhaps set up your diet so other days are slightly lower in calories to allow a bit more elbow room on the weekends and have fun. But it isnt doing your body any favours

its not your lifestyle you should be worried about, what people are saying is that alcohol will kill your progress if you are getting WASTED. moderation is fine, but getting wasted isn't... thats all. Personally i've found a good balance with one night DRINKING a week... though I will go *out* more than that, once I've drank in a week I don't drink anymore that week, and never on weekdays no matter what the occasion.

ang, this is a forum of tough love. I think most people are concerned with the fact you aren't eating and drinking heavily at the same time. That risk more than just your appearance. Like I said. Tough Love Don't take it personal. You are right. You are 22. I feel you. Im 21. I want to go out and party and have a good time too. And damn right you should. There is nothing wrong with choosing to have some fun right now. Don't stress it.
Anyway. like I said. I use to go out and drink about 2-3 times a week before I deployed too. But I plan on dropping it alot cause getting in shape takes precedence for me.
Having fun is important to you. Nothing wrong with that. Have Fun, just minimize the harm you are doing by eating before you drink

Can't speak for anyone else, and they do seem genuinely concerned for your well being, but I was just relating to the conversation with an example of people who take NO CARE of themselves whatsoever, who get ****faced DaILY, and don't even care.
You at least seem to have an awareness as to the potential harm you might be causing yourself. I don't care what anybody else does in their personal life, it just pisses me off when people with good genetics, natural athletic ability, or even an active lifestyle they've left behind, whatever, and they just throw it all away and destroy their bodies.
I mean, I'm not gonna lie, if I could get away with eating what I wanted and drinking all the time and still remain healthy and fit, I would. Sadly there's no way around this obstacle
Hell, I've done my share of drinking/partying/recreational stuff use, and I've wasted years being inactive and eating the wrong ****, and now I'm trying to reverse it, and go back to what I was before that, and beyond.
I don't care how often you drink and I'm not gonna preach because you're an adult who will make the right choice eventually, I was just commenting on some people i know who do that **** every day, it's so ridiculous.
That is all.

I totally agree with Matthor, it is incredible to see how some people just don't give a dam about what they are putting in their body, I laugh at the fact that these are the same people that were at one point pretty skinny and now the lifestyle is catching up to them and they are getting the big guts. Personally i don't wanna be that guy and hope to never be

i'm pretty much ready to give up drinking altogether, or when i go out, i might have 1 beer.
but last night i had 5 pints at this party and once i got home i couldnt sleep. i dunno what it is, but whenever i drink i cant sleep until like 5 am. so today i felt like **** cause of lack of sleep and in the gym my lifts suffered.
for me, drinking and bodybuilding just don't mix. plus, i find i don't get more social when i drink, i actually find i have a tougher time talking for some reason. unless i get totally ****faced then i can rant on like an idiot and piss in public etc which can be fun but then the next 2-3 days of recovery are awful.
So basically, less social skills, no sleep, waste of money, empty calories, bad workout, dehydration.
no thanks.

Emm it really depends it can be as much as 3 times a week or as little as none. I t was easter holidays there the last few weeks and i drank alot, but before that i had almost ocmpletely cut out alcohol. I think it does effect your gains but hey it is fun and social and you are only young once so you might aswell enjoy it

Only 2 years, hmmm
The best I can do here is offer a link that may give an idea about alcohol.
http://www.havc.k12.al.us/t4/fall200...ol/alcohol.htm
I've battled alcoholism and have educated myself the best I can about the effects of alcohol. This stuff is serious.
