    Insulin spike before workout???

Is it good to create an insulin spike before the workout as well as after it?

Usually i take 50g of maltodextrine/dextrose 20 mins before workout and then 80g of it right after, followed by my protein shake 30 mins later.

    Am i doing right?

What you wish to do is to spike blood sugar ; a rise in Insulin levels is a consequence of high blood sugar levels, it is not a cause in itself. That said, what you wish to do is take a high glycemic shake ,not too far before your workout (with protein), so in which case your blood sugar levels are ready to peak by the time you hit the gym (you want to AVOID the high Insulin peak). Once the Adrenalin and NE are flowing, this will block Insulin, and will make the blood sugar available for your body to use as energy. If you spike blood sugar too far before your workout, before Adrenalin and NE are released, then you will get the rebound hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), in which case you will be tired.

Here is a good link, to an article by Zeppelin, on Par's site regarding Pre/During/Post workout nutrition. A good read.
