How come I can only use 56 pounds for reps when doing dumbbell press, but can get a max of 180 on the barbell bench? I only weigh 120 pounds so 180 is good for me. Anyway, I've been doing dumbbell presses for about 4-5 months now...but still can't get really high weights on dumbbells.

I believe the founder of the HIT routine says that dubbell press is barbell press multiplied by .90 divided by two= the weight of each dumbbell. I am not sure if this is right... I am just saying. It seems accurate to me in my routine though. Make sure your form is right when originally lifting the dumbbells. You may be exerting too much energy by doing the form wrong.

If you just started doing DB benches you'll have to give your stabilizing muscles a few workouts to catch up and the poundages you can do will come up.

How many workouts is that? It's been like 4-5 months. I started doing HIT when I started using dumbbells for bench."Pain is weakness leaving the body." -US Marines
