I just bought one of those pads from academy. When I was lifting at home, it was good up until about 225, at which point that pad was too thin. But after I got my gym membership, they have this massive foam-ish pad and I don't feel a thing anymore. I never accilmated my shoulders to the bar, and therefore it hurts a **** load.. haha my friend tried to callous up his shoulders, and was squatting even though there were like bandages all along his shoulder with blood blisters everwhere.

Only thing I can think of is wear a hoodie. It used to kill me but I did them anyway and didn't let pain stop me. After a few months your body should build up rough skin where you rest the bar and it wont hurt anymore. Im not fat and I can let 465 rest on me without any problems, but it took some time.

agreed, but I would suggest doing barbell shrugs and dumbbell shrugs 3x8 of each, go heavy you should be able to flex them where you will be able to rest the bar right on them.. will only take a week or two before your able to be comfortable with it, untill then put up with the pain

no , you need to lower the bar a lil on your traps
Why do I do this, live with the constant pain, the suffering, the sacrifice? Why?
Because I can. Because pain tells me I'm awake. Reminds me I'm alive

Hey, man. I had very little success, squating about only 290 pounds. I realized that the reason I couldn't get any higher, was due to the fact that my lower back was being worked harder than my legs! If you lay the bar across your neck, you are only inviting a nasty lower-back as well as neck problems. Now (a year later), I've been laying it across my scapula (right below the rear delts). A 400 pound squat comes easy now (very good technique, btw). If it irratates your skin, just add some padding - and wear a shirt!
good luck!
