I am 5'11 and play Defensive End. I weight 172 pounds. I'm working on getting to play Varsity next year. I have played my Freshmen year and sophmore year. My 40yard time is 5.25....I'm working on it
Would you recommend me to add more weight though? I seem a little small compared to the O-linemen. What should my weight goal be for next year?
Thanks for starting up this thread.

You think I could have a good chance getting scouted to one of the Ivy's or even Stanford wit my size for a defensive lineman if I keep workign on it. I'm only a sophomore so help me out.
6 feet (Supposed to grow at least another inch)
Max bench = 185
Max deadlift = 310
Max squat = 300
Max Powerclean = 180 (This is low cuz i just started powercleaning)
40 time = 5.45 I know it's really slow. I'm working on it.
Thanks1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Honestly, your stats really wouldn't make you stick out among HS athletes, but that doesn't say too much. Skill, heart, and work ethic are the most important factors in determining a good football player...not just stats (although they are highly correlated with them usually). Work your butt off in the weight room and on the field and anything can happen.

A couple questions.
In your opinion, if I didn't play much varsity my junior year, how much will that affect playing in college?
Also, How much do you think height played a role in positions? I love linebacker, but I feel I am too short (5'8).
Also, How important are stats? I personally think I have good lifts for being a junior in HS (235 bench, 350 squat, 365 deadlift, 195 clean, 4.78 40yrd. 5'8, 170lbs).
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

I didn't play too much my Junior year. It makes things more difficult, but you can still get attention.
Height is somewhat important. I really didn't play defense, but I know it's important to see the play develop as a linebacker and spot the ball carrier. We have a 5'8 LB on our team who is great because of his low center of gravity, but he has trouble with his reads because of his height. This goes for a lot of positions.
Edit: As I said a few posts ago, stats arn't as important as the skill of the player. I work for the football office right now, and I can tell you coaches don't put a lot of weight on stats because they usually are BS. They are more concerned with height/weight and game footage.

Been reading this thread for a bit today(just joined the site to check out some extra edge training tips). I start at DT for a school in the mighty SEC conference(rising senior) and Ill say this for all u guys trying to make it big time. Outwork everyone. When your friends are out partying go run stadiums and train. Most of you sound young, and have some time to change your status. There aint no majic ticket to the bigtime. Just remember this there's thousands of kids trying to get the same scholarship you are. When u aren't going hard someone else always is. remeber that the next time feel lazy. I promise you,and the college guys in here will tell you the summer conditioning test and workouts in college aint no joke!! Don't know if any college guys in here do the 110 test, but trust me its a beast. Keep outworking them.

hahahahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahaha being invited to a prep school is like talking to a junior college buddy, congrats on that hahahahhahahahahhahahah
im just saying that using the "i didnt have the experience they wanted" line doesnt work. if you are good, you are good. regardless of how long you have played football.
a good example is Michael Roos, starting OT for Tennessee Titans. Drafted 2nd round out of Eastern Washington. Only played 1 year of high school football, very raw, but given a scholarship to EWU. Started for 2 years there and was the best offensive lineman in DIAA.
you just need to calm down, im not saying that i dont believe you. im sure you are a good player, but i hate those kids on the board that just say "oh i was really good in high school and everyone was looking at me but they said i didnt have enough experience" or "ya, this school recruited me but i really didnt like this or that" i just dont like kids excuses for not going somewhere (not saying yours in an excuse)
so i really want want to talk **** online so ill just state my opinion and you can call me names.

Notice he only started two years though. He probably redshirted. Plus on the oline if you are big its easy to improve. You can always teach techniqe and improve strength. There was a lineman that was 6'6" 325lbs last year in a school in my state. he wrestled and played football only his senior year. He was noticed during the spring had a decent season and got a scholarship. Not exatcly sure where though. He only benched 190-210 when he first started lifting during his senior year also.

Im basing this off your senior numbers. If you can run a "true" 4.6 that will get you great looks, at 210 however you need to be a great passrusher. Im talking double digit sacks. You need to ge that weight up to about 220. Our defensive ends range from 225 to 260. The guy thats 225 is 6ft6 and had 6 sacks as a freshman last year. But keep working hard man, If you can get toa 4.6 you got a shot. But all that means nothing if your gamefilm sucks.
