I would use the belt only when you feel you need it. The number of reps really doesn't matter all that much, but really the percentage of your 1RM IMO. I generally belt up when I hit 80-85% of my 1RM, but if I feel as if I can go without it, I will. Remember, the belt is a tool...not a crutch. Hope this helps.

I go with a belt when I get up around 200lbs because it is more than my bw and I have to clean and jerk it to get it on my back because I have no rack so I free squat it. It is too much of a strain to do a full set (10) and then have to dl, clean and jerk it again and dropping it is no picnic either after 3-4 sets.

Like mochi I don't want to become dependant on the belt, so I limit it's use to one rep max attempts on back squats, deadlifts, and cleans, sure it prevents injury but I also use it as a tool to lift more, this way my core develops it's strength much better.
