What is the difference between an Olympic bar and a regular bar? Any advantages?

I can't really imagine benching a large amount with the small bar, seems like it would hurt your hands.

well the grips are not too different its just the case of the plates and then the max for the bar....

olympic bars are stronger and can hold more weight
aslo, if u buy plate loaded machines most are compatable with olympic plates

most olympics can hold about 1000 and most sandards can hold 400, the actual grips are the same though
