Bench Form

I have always done my bench pressing with a flat back and flared elbows, but after reading a few articles on here and t-nation, I am considering bringing my elbows in a bit, and getting the proper arch happening.
I am wondering if this will allow me to gain more strength in a shorter amount of time using this method (even if it means dropping the weight back down initially)?
I'm also wondering if I start doing this, will it hamper my chest development and focus more on my triceps?
I'm doing rippetoes by the way.

Looking at powerlifting vids, powerlifters seem to flare.

This makes sense as chest is the biggest muscle the more you can activate it in the lift the more weight you will lift.

You've been watching some unusual videos then, as most powerlifters do exactly the opposite for exactly the opposite reason.
