I recently purchased a pretty decent heart rate monitor, due to the strong recommendation by my trainer to get one. I have been plateauing for quite awhile now ... I believe this is partly due to not changing up my routine enough and not progessing with my weight training much. However, after going back to using a PTrainer, he has told me he thinks I am not eating enough. I have an extremely hard time believing this, I track every calorie I eat - I get in at least 1700 cal and as much as 2100. (I'm 28 y.o. female, 142lb.)
Anyway, here's the question ... my heart rate monitor (w/chest strap) allows me to put in my body weight and gender and then it will calculate calories expended. It seems to be pretty accurate (which I say because when it says my HR is 170 - 85% of my MaxHR - it actually FEELS like I am exerting about 85% of my effort). Anyway, the other day I put it on in the morning, and had it start calculating the calories I expended all day long. By the end of the day, it said I had burned 6500+ calories ... can this POSSIBLY be accurate??? I have a desk job, so I'm fairly sedentary most of the day. I did workout (10mins of cardio and 1hr lifting) on the day that I did this, but still ... 6500 calories seems impossible. Wouldn't that mean that as long as I'm eating 6000 calories a day, I theoretically should be losing a pound a week??? I know I've got to be missing something obvious here ... or maybe this calculator is just totally inaccurate?
Thanks!
