Post Cardio or Weight Lifting? & Starvation Mode?

    Ok now hears my Question:

What burns more calories..Lifting weights or Cardio? I have no Question in my mind that doing both is the way to go, but lets say you did 10 min cardio 10 min lifting weights, what would burn more cals?

    Another question I had :

From what I know if you burn more cals than you eat you will lose weight..Now if your burning more cals than you consume doesnt your body go into starvation mode? Or will all the protein and fat take place of the cals?

    1. That depends on the intensity, 10 mins of running is going to burn more calories than most weight sessions and 10 mins of hardcore weight lifting is going to burn more than 10 mins of walking. IMO intense cardio is the calorie burning because its catabolic whereas weight lifting is mostly anabolic.

    2. Starvation mode occurs when you are burning way more calories than you can consume. If your active metabolic rate burns 3000 calories a day and you eat 2500 + burn 500 cardio you are at -1000 calories and should not go into starvation mode.

I've heard 10x your bodyweight, which is what you're supposed to use for cutting (well, 10-12x bodyweight). Anything below that is supposedly "starvation mode".

Starvation mode is a tricky one......

I dont think the specific number of cals a person eats ED has anything to do with it. From what I've read, your body goes into starvation mode when you are calorie deficient for a certain period of time. For instance, when you sleep. In this case your resting metabo rate decreases due to sleep. So its not as big an issue as it is during the day. On th other hand, because your awake, active, and your metabo rate is running higher than it is when your sleeping, going with out food for a certain period of time will send the body into starvation mode.

You should be eating every 4 hours at the least. I eat every 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. This ensures my metabo rate stays high and I do not slip into the mode.

Yeah, that sounds more right (what Mr. Nasty said) than just how many calories you eat in a day. If you keep eating every 2-4 hours (I usually have a meal every 2.5 hours) you keep your metabolism constantly burning. I think about it like some business guy who's boss keeps coming in every 20 minutes piling papers on his desk. If you keep giving your body food (or your bitch ass boss keeps piling work on your desk) you're body will always be burning something off. If you aren't constantly giving you're body something to burn off, your metabolism will stop working at such a high rate. That's why it's important to eat every few hours to keep you're meals smaller but more frequent. It helps, most definetely.

if i think ive hit starvation mode, what can i do to "get out of it" besides eating small frequent meals (which i usually do), or by increasing my calories..

on a BMR of 1930 or so i was cutting on 1350 - 1500 a day.. then the fat loss stopped... ive upped the calories to 1700 - 1800.. should i up them again to 1800 - 1900 do u think??
