Welcome to my world...
For those who frequent this section...welcome to My world...the world of Pro Bodybuilding!
I bring, along with myself, one of my best friends and fellow Pro BB's...
"THE THING"- Tom Prince.
We will answer questions, give insight, and generally discuss all aspects of BB..from the perspective of the pro's. We bring over 40 years of combined experience for you to learn from, and hope it helps you to attain your goals and give you some "tricks of the trade" that we have picked up in our travels.
If this forum is a success, I will bring many of your favorite BB's along to contribute, write articles, and give you access to some of the world's best.
This forum will be a positive experience, for those that wish to learn, debate, and get insight into the world of the IFBB. There will be no tolerance for those who's primary goal is to be rude, condescending, or disrespectful.
I hope you all find this a fun, informative means of learning and appreciate it as a rare opportunity to converse with some of the best our sport has to offer...
Let the games begin...!

As were asking funny questions in this thread now (I'm talking to you Its_Painfull ) I was just looking on your page on bb.com Bob, and it says you've been in a number of hollywood films. Which films are they? Just wondering if I've seen you on the silver screen!!!

Hey guys..I'll try to answer as many as I can ( one week out...not much free time)
Yes, I was TITAN on the American Gladiators circa: 1991-92
I've done a bunch of commercials...
ESPN/ Tylenol commercial (still running) w/ Stuart Scott
GMC truck commercial
Smashmouth video ( your my #1)
Bloodbrothers video ( ambulance)
Demons at the door (movie)
Dodgeball ( Ben Stiller movie coming out this spring)
Speech 101 (short)
Fighting for Survival (short) UFC movie...
Hercules movie (in the works)
Close encounters/ 4th kind ( shoot this spring)
It'S- PAINFUL-
I wouldn't be doing leg ext. followed by leg press.....BUT, If I were and found myself in that situation...I guess you have to just work in and bite my lip...what else can you do? It's not like the old days where people actually recognized you as getting ready for competition, and gave up their bench.....times have changed.

I don't know if I'm supposed to start a new post or ask my questions here so I'll try this thread first. Thank you for you time Bob and Tom, I think you are both awesome! I just spent a couple hours reading all your posts and I have already found a lot of your knowledge invaluable. Any posts that were just arguing or negative comments I skipped, I suggest you do the same because its a waste of everybody's time to do that. There should be moderators to look at your posts and when someone trys to argue or makes a negative comment it should be deleted. Your advice (based on a LOT of experience) should be taken for what it is worth and not argued. All the advice I've seen you give so far seems great. Now onto my questions:
Bob's advice about an hour of cardio at 3.0 on the treadmill sounds great! My question: Should this be done first thing in the morning after a protein shake or when?
You say that DB's are better than Barbells for chest and I agree with this but you also say variety is good. I don't think I want to go to only using DB's because then my Barbell press weight would go WAY down. My question: So how should I incorporate flat barbell and incline barbell presses into my chest routine? Should flat barbell bench press be totally eliminated?
What is your favorite method of breaking a bench press plateau? I have been recommended Pause Presses.
Why didn't Bob have hammer curls listed in an example bicep routine he posted?
I don't have any lower back pain yet, so should I still do my barbell rows or should I use machine rows and db rows?
Last question: What is your favorite finishing chest exercise... db flyes, cable cross overs, etc.?
Thank you, your time and advice is truely appreciated.

Mattman-
I appreciate your post, bro. Remember, we don't mind people questioning our opinions we just ask that they do it with respect
1. cardio on an empty stomach first thing in the A.M. is the best case senario for optimum fat burning
2. I would TOTALLY eliminate the Bench press as it's a sure shoulder killer in the years to come. Use both BB and DB in your routines, break up the order once in a while
Ex.- Incline BB, Decline BB, Flat DB flys, pec-deck
3. I never really cared about how much I could bench, pause tech is a fine way to do it...It's not HOW MUCH you can bench...It's how much you LOOK LIKE you can bench that counts!!
4. hammer curls aren't for biceps, they're for Forearms and the Brachialis (sp) muscle ( between the bicep and the tri). I do like them and have done them for these areas for many years..
5. You can use BB row's in your routine, just don't make it a ridiculously heavy Bb row, keep the weight under control, use a lifting belt on these!
6. Cables, Pec-deck or extreme inclines (55-60 degree) on a Smith machine...hits the upper, UPPER chest area.
best of luck to you

Thanks Bob, it seems to good to be true to have an IFBB Pro answering my questions. 4 questions about your answers:
1. So I should quit the flat barbell bench press but incline BB and decline BB are okay, or was that a typo and you meant DB? Also, most of the guys on this board say that decline bench isn't needed if you do parallel bar dips?
So the basic chest workout to be used most often would look like this?
Incline Barbell BP, flat DB BP, leaning forward dips, and then a finishing exercise like you listed above.
OR
Flat DB BP, Incline Barbell BP, leaning forward dips, and then a finishing exercise like you listed above.
And sometimes switch the Dips to Decline BB or DB BP.
Switch the reps from week to week, 8 reps one week, 8-6 reps one week, 6-4 reps one week, for example.
2. Should I use the lifting belt on my deadlifts with partial range of motion also? I also think I'm gonna get some of those little protective sleeves that you put around your elbows for protection on pressing movement days.
3. If I'm gonna do cardio at a time other than right when I wake up when should I? I'm guessing 2 hours after a meal.
4. How do you feel about using pre-exhaustion for chest and shoulders?
I think answering question #1 can save you some time later so you don't have to keep answering people's chest questions because that is a lot of peoples favorite question to ask. THANKS!

Bob, glad to see you are here. I'm new to the board, but by no means new to lifting (15+ years under my belt). I remember you, as well as other "old school" guys, from the mm2000 days (early 90's). Glad to see someone with your knowledge base is on the board.

Haha thats true.
Bob I have a question. My arms look a lot bigger from the side than they do from the front. How should I train them to make them look thicker from the front?
Thanks.

A common problem and one which I had for many years...
Train your outer biceps more than you inner biceps.
You do this by adopting a grip that Is the counter of the area you wish to target...
in this case were looking for outer biceps...use a CLOSE GRIP on you curling movements, and incorperate hammer curls into your routine, if they're not already.
You can do this with ANY bodypart, they all respond the same (opposite)

No, It wouldn't burn muscle at all...just the opposite.
Your glycogen levels are lowest in the waking hours, before eating can re-establish them...doing cardio at this time is best because with the gly levels low, your body will go to the fat burning stage that much quicker.
High Intensity cardio only uses up more carbs for fuel, not fat. The guys I've seen try and use this for cutting up over the years all had one thing in common....
when they stepped on stage, they all looked like victoms of starvation...If they stuck their tounge out, they'd look like a zipper!!
