how many of you really sleep the 8-10 hours your suppost to?........

    ?
You have to love bodybuilding so much that you'll concentrate on a movement with enough intensity to actually convince yourself that the muscle is visibly growing with every repetition. As you pump and squeeze, you can feel it, you can see it, and you don't want to stop.

    Cool

Anyone who is serious about bodybuilding and making the ultimate gains, should sleep, in my opinion, at least 8 hours.. Keep in mind GH is released when you sleep, plus your muscles get a chance to recover. So anyone who doesn't take advantage of this oppurtunity to give the muscles a much needed rest is only hurting himself.

I even take zma and sometimes I can only sleep 7 hours ... most of my sleep is usually like get up once or twice a night , lay in bed for awhile fall asleep , wake up fall asleep and so on. Do you think I'm getting the full 8 hours of sleep?

hey your body goes through many pocesses of sleep like rem and all that crap, last night i slept for 5 hours and woke up on my couch, there was food sitting by me, and i ate it and then went back to bed, i was up for about 5 minutes, and then right back to bed for about 4 more hours, does this mean that i didnt get my full sleep? cause i got around 9 hours of sleep but i didnt make it through the whole process all at once

I think you answerd your own question. You weren't asleep, you were resting.. Henceforth, you did not achieve optimal results...

    You're in a "full" sleep from non-REM 3 to Rem 5...
Dynomyte, you were in quite wakefullness and only been through stages 1 and 2. Read that article from John Gunns.

I took classes about sleep, and forgot it all....

Actually Jean , I have a good ability to remember my dreams. And everytime I'd wake up I remembered the dream, and you can only dream at the end of your 4th stage and the entire 5th stage.

Then you've probably been through hypnic jerk (sp?), which wakes you up.
Oh, ok, that clears up something for me. I didn't estimate the time you were sleeping per period.

    !

hehe, i have to wake up 6:30am for my school weeks and 7:30am for my work weeks, and for some reason, i can't sleep before 12:30am on week nights. I will get tired some times around like 8:30 or 9pm, but i don't want to sleep then because my body will think it's a nap and wake up at like 1am adn totally mess me up and i'll be tired all day. That's my experience with sleep.

However, i can sleep for like 6 hours, and not feel lethargic like i do on school and work weeks, on my vacation days such as now~ I woke up just in time to watch the Olympia on T.V. Hehe, Coleman looked bad but his back and posing were better over-all.
Also, whoever judges the posing rounds must play favorites or something because i don't see how good posers like Kamali can get rated so high.

Ok first off, u didnt watch ****, u watched a 20 sec clip of each routine, and not even all of the competitors. The T.v. didnt show barely anything. I saw the whole thing on the web broadcast, and yes, Kamali was good, but his posing did not accentuate any of his muscles

Actually you get 5hrs, but 5hrs isn't enough. I did a lot of research on sleep because I had to give a 3 or 4 min speech one time on it, and studies show a big difference as to when people get 8, and people get a lot less.

    Fit For Life,
You don't understand one thing. Not all people are the same. I have the kind of body that requires small amount of sleep. And I also have noticed that my recovery process takes diminutive amount of time.

    Everybody is different.

Yes, everyone is different, but you can't say 5hrs all the time is good enough, or that 3hrs is good enough. Research is done for a certain reason, and by everything from the NSF, to people like Carksadon at the University of Brown, and others all seem to agree that there is a point where so many hours is not enough.

Just because a person may go to bed at 2am, and then feel refreshed at say 7am means nothing.

I think that for you an extra 3-4hrs would do wonders. You may not notice, but some people do. Thing is, we think we are 110% ready to go when we are not. Some people say all they need is 4-5hrs, and that is it, but what tey don't understand is that they haven't slept 8-10hrs like some people have. They get used to 5hrs, and then convince themselves that 5hrs is enough no matter what. Take a person who sleeps 5hrs, get themn to sleep 8-10 for months, and I promise they. and people around them will notice a difference.

can someone highlight the key reasons for why sleeping is very important.
Why would 9-10 hours be better then 7 hours
I just want the real facts

    peace

I'm kind of like Jean I guess if I sleep 5 or 6 hours I'm refreshed and totally energized for the day, but If I sleep like 9 I'm so sluggish and tired feeling the rest of the day.

if i get less than 7 hours of sleep, i can actually feel slightly weak the next day, also sometimes, i get weird muscular aches in upper quads and forearms, for some reason, these aches only happen when i dont get enough sleep
