Worst DOMS of my life!
I skipped legs last week. So i decided to hit them as hard as i could this week to make up for it. Everything is nicely sore except my calves. They are completely ruined. destroyed. unusable. I cant go to work because i cant walk to the door properly. If the wind blows on them they scream with pain. I cant describe it anybetter, you get the point. Is there anything i can do besides wait it out? I try to stretch them but its impossible from the tightness. would ice or warm water help? thanks party people.

Creams and ice may help increase comfort but the best way to properly recover is to rest or just do light resistance work that is, cardio or light weights.

Did you experience major cramps in your calves at any point?

If possible, this will in fact speed recovery a bit. I use this method for stubborn DOMS with all muscle groups.

It sucks when you live in a 2 story house (maybe 3 for you rich people). I think I lost weight one time because I was too much in pain to go downstairs to get food, lol.

Do some light sets for them, then stretch.
Get the blood in there.

I love the occasional debilitating soreness. It usually happens in my legs, but the calves get their share too.
I concur with the active recovery and stretching and of course, food.
This is in fact one of the motivators for doing calf raises in the shower and stretching them with all that hot water pouring over them the whole time. Then I'll take the handheld shower massage to them. hurts like hell, but feels good to get the blood in there.

Massage, although painful, with either your hands or a "stick," foam pad etc, will promote circulation, therefore increasing the flow of nutrients to the muscles, aiding in recovery.

What would the point of that be? Maybe in this severe case, but I definitely wouldn't say "everyday."

Did you adequately stretch your legs after your workout...that definitely helps to cut down on DOMS...

Oh man I feel you. I had the exact same thing happen to my calf's about 3 months ago. They were fine if I just sat there but walking was almost impossible. It took about 2 days to recover.

Properly stretching - dynamic stretches and warm-ups for dynamic exercises.
Static stretches after but only enough to relieve muscle spasms/etc
