can anyone explain in great detail how the body uses muscle mass for energy if the ATP conversion for both fat and carbohydrates is too slow?
im curious because what im reading states that muscle fiber count is fixed at birth. with that said, if you arent eating enough cals, and your body goes totally catabolic, and you start losing lean body mass, what are you actually losing? is your body eating away fibers that can never be replaced, thereby reducing total muscle fiber count, or is it just depleting the size of the fibers?

Catabolism is mostly a problem after prolonged exercise or fasting. I'm not totally sure about the biochem concearning muscle fibers but I would imagine it's similar to adipose cells. You are born with a certain #, but these can increase in size and in extreme cases (obese people for fat, and bb's for muscle) increase in #.
