    yes

depends what you're being tested for

some STD's can be done by urine (chlamydia)

some use a swab inside the urethra (chlamydia, gonorrhea)

some are tested for in the blood (HIV, Hep C, syphilis, H. ducreyi, Hep B, Herpes, etc)

some are tested by the lesions (molluscum contagiousum, herpes)

so really it depends what you want to be tested for and what symptoms, if any, you have.....that list above is far from complete

if ur in CA (and maybe other states too), u can apply for this health card if ur low income or no income (can just lie; they dont verify. say u dont got a job or somethin, u just fill out a short form ). they just ask u if u want the form. then its all free.

Well getting tested for ALL possible STD's would be very expensive. The average preson knows of 3-6 STID, while in reality there are 10X more than

You basically want the most common ones that you could have been exposed to. HIV, Hepatitis B(if not vaccinated), maybe Hep C, syphilis, chlamydia(usually asymptomatic), gonorrhea and maybe a couple others. Many of the other ones produce specific symptoms so to test for them would probably be a waste of money. Also, I'm not sure exactly what planned parenthood screens for and what they don't

As for cost, it really depends if you are paying out of pocket or insurance. If you're still under your parents insurance then your parents have the right to know what the insurance is being used for and often times the insurance company will tell them. If you use the insurance there is no way for the doctor to maintain patient confidentiality then, however, your parents can not call up the doctor and demand to know what you were seen for.....the doctor can politely tell them to piss off. You can also pay cash at a doctors office to avoid the whole insurance thing if you wanted.

During one of my rotations, I did a lot of STD screens, mostly on the teenage and early 20s population. I won't lie to you.....the swab test for chlamydia and gonorrhea is known to be pretty uncomfortable but its only a few seconds of discomfort. Other than that, the reason I like the idea of doing the screens at a doctors office is because you may as well have a complete sexual history and phsyical while you're there. I don't think they can do that at planned parenthood, unless its staffed by docs too

ya know they do make different sizes of catheters, if it hurts too much you can always ask for a smaller size but then that might just be the most humiliating thing one would have to do

then you'd have to throw in a "hey im a grower, not a shower" and if its a male nurse or doctor inserting the catheter make sure you add "no homo"
