Are push ups messing up my lower back?

I started recently and since I cant do more than 3 push ups at a time I read that doing a plank in a push up position will help you do push ups overtime and get stronger. And so I did, and as i was doing it 15 seconds in I started to feel my lower back really tight and it started to hurt so I stopped.
The morning after though my lower back hurted so bad when I bent over and/or put myself in a dead lift position.
It's almost the end of the day and the pain significantly decreased so Im not so worried.
Although I do wanna know If I should keep doing this so my back can get use to it or if I should stop.
