I've been trying to get in shape and lose weight for the past 2 months but really havn't enforced it. At my school they have weights after school 3 days a week for the Football team. We do running drills for about 10-15 minutes, Ab workout for about 5, and then we do 5 weight realted workouts, 3 sets of 10.
Last year I was A Defensive tackle (I'm 14, Freshman, 6'2, 185). I believe that I have great vision of the field and plays, and I want to know besides speed, what should I do? I hope to get a bench soon and I have from now until August to prepare. What should I eat exactly and what workouts should I concentrate doing?
BTW, sorry about the pic, it isn't any good but it's all I have, if you need a better picture just tell me what I should be doing it in or what kind and I can get out the digital camera.

Next Year will be my first year of JV, Sophmore. I have approx. 6-7 months to train. I wouldn't mind to be 200 pounds if It's all in muscle. I am not cut, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't go to call myself fat. I ran a mile in 7:55, which I could have ran faster but It was in a PF class. I've yet to get ym 40, I'm hoping it's under 5.0, I have good acceleration.
I was a DT, and the coach keeps saying I'm going to be a big guy, get to be about 250... I was like "Damn..." but then again say I do get to 250 and I'm 6'5, that seems like a good li9nebacker to me. I will check out that book.6'2

I played outside linebacker in high school and I went up from 150 to 185 during my freshmen to sophomore year. I just kept on eating and eating when i got home from school. I did not go on any specific, strict diet. After all my step dad was a chef so it was a pleasure eating whatever he made that night. You have to do a lot of power lifting like bench, squats (no leg press), and deadlifts. You also have to make sure you keep yourself quick as you gain the extra mass. I would just talk to your coach about it and he will suggest doing things like shuttle runs, power skips, and sprints. That will make you a giant, fast beast.

I think my coach wants me to be an Offensive Lineman, which I don't like for a few reasons:
Limiting what I feel my abilities can do
I plain just don't like offense that much, though Tight End would be OK.
I like Defense, and I'm a great hitter. Top 5 of my team.
I will get my 40, I apreciate the replies. I was thinking about doing something like this.
Drink a Slim-Fast or something for breakfast
Eat a Salad with chicken, ham, or tuna for lunch
Lift after school, do some cardio
Eat dinner
Sound ok?6'2

ok
What backer position are you going for?
outside inside?
If outside, then you need to travel on the pursuit. Quick pitch, pass, fast stuff. But for middle, you need to watch the fullback, which some of them can be animals and fast, so you need to be able to stop them in their tracks, but you still need to be fast case you have to pursue them to stop the score, but overall you need to build some quality muscle and you will cut alot of fat come season, your coach will whip you into shape, you'll get faster, so right now focus on quality muscle, you need to adopt a powerlifting program, and eat whole foods, and maybe a protein shake if you think its a good idea. but getting to heavy, you will feel miserable and slow, so i dont see the point in gaining alot of fat, so if you hit 190-195 over the next few months maintain that weight with a good power program, and come preseason, run your ass off, and get fast, do track this spring go for sprinter, every little bit helps

yo jiggax, you just need to bulk up , and get ur speed up, how fast u run the mile doesnt mean crap in football, football is just quick 10 yard bursts, and the occasional run down or wateva. but i mean , im 5,8 5,9 205 pounds, i play defensive tackle, nose guard, i play center, i can play guard if they need me, i am a long snapper, and when im not at tackle i jump in at linebacker. i will be starting varsity on both sides of the ball next season and i cant wait.
i run about a 4.9 40 now since before football season last year started i ran a 5 and i know im quicker then that so i prob run a 4.9 like im saying or a 4.8, my goal is to run a 4.7 and weight 210. um well if ur gona play some tackle, a high bench is nice to have so u can blow them out the hole, and strong hips and legs are even more important, dont forget in football it starts from the bottom up, the man thats lower will usually win the dog fight.. also since ur only going into ur softmore year, u might think about picking up on wrestling, because it helps your tackling skill alot, i started wrestling this year at 215 and i can already tell it helped me on my tackling and agility, it will also get u really conditioned and is jsut great for gaining strength and speed. my teamates call me the beast on the football field because i can play almost all positions, the stongest and fastest is always best.
you just want to get stronger and faster, u know brute strength workable stength , just because u can bench alot doesnt mean anything till u transfer that onto the field. loook bro i could talk to u for days on what things u could do but if u want more advice just pm me with questions and ill answer you. so hook me up with some specific questions and ill set u up, i can even set u up with a workout plan and a agilioty plan if u want. the biggest advice is u just gotta want to be the best. peace bro holla back

Definitely do not do that. You need to be eating 5-6 small meals a day. With school its hard, but find a way to sneak in some almonds or a protein bar.
Drink alot of water throughout the day.
Avoid Slim-Fast like the plague. Its total crap, stick to regular protein shakes.
Try different forms of cardio like jump rope and interval running. Even 400m sprints.

I played outside Linebacker in HS a few years ago. You definately need to eat a lot if you want to gain 15 pounds of muscle. I reccomend taking the 6-7 months you have until next season and workout like mad. Eat a lot, but eat clean calories.
Also work on speed and quickness.
Also, if you arent cut now, at 185... And you built to a cut 200 pounds, you would be gaining more than 15 pounds of muscle. I think that 200 is a decent goal and the extra weight will help a lot, just dont lose your agility.

I'm back. Ok this is going to sound sad but I just started working out, I don't know my max but I can bench 150+ 4 times. I hope to get my own bench. I'm not cut, I have no idea what to do. If I brought nutra grain bars and granloa bars to school and ate like 2 or 3 is that ok and eat 2 meals at home?
BTW I was looking at protein and stuff today and the bars are expensive... what are the hsakes exactly? Powdered mixtures?6'2

Here's some pics, they're dark but I took them last night. Guys I want this so bad, I want to be cut and in shape, I want to be a beast, my body type, my shoulders and everything are big, I know I could be in great physical shape, I know I'm committed it's just the eating situation is my problem. As a teenager I don't know what to do because I don't have a car, a job, money, so I eat what my parents give me. Somebody please approve this:
Breakfast: Fruit
Snack 1 during 1st and 2nd Period: Granola Bar
Lunch: Salad, Chips (Yes I know I sound like a pussy but I like salad and cheeseburgers are just greasy and give me stomach aches)
Snack 2: Maybe a protein Bar or something, possibly after I workout?
Snack 3: ???
Dinner: Whatever is made.

hey bro, its good to hear that you're interested as a freshman, as a freshman in HS, i wasnt very dedicated to lifting and training for football, i didnt become dedicated until approximately the summer before my sophomore year of ball. If you want to be a linebacker, be sure to have a good combination of speed, strength, and size. Don't worry if you have a bit of fat on you, it will help as long as you are in shape, all size in football is good size when you have the right combination. Since you're already 185, it seems that you have a very good base, now all you need to do is gain the knowledge to train yourself into a big, strong, and agile player. Plyometrics, speed training, stretching, a good diet, and good football training program will get you well on your way to becoming a linebacker. In high school, i played defensive end as a sophomore, because i was chunky and not very agile, my jr and sr years i managed to cut down to about 215 while running a 4.6 40. Believe me, it takes hard work and dedication to succeed in football. Good Luck!+

Thanks bro. My coach sees me as Defensive End, I just need muscle and speed, and I don't know how to increase speed. I increased my vertical jump, I can grab the basketball rim now, which i couldn't do during the season, but my speed? I don't know.

I am a teen trying to play linebacker next year with no football experience. However my numbers are good the only issue is experience. Because my background is in power lifting I would recommend the same. Squats are the most important. Train mostly as a power lifter for your strength lifts and train as a bodybuilder for accseory lifts to add size to your frame. Don't neglect speed and agility.
