    Heaviest squat of all time

I just read of Brent Mikesell's 1174(?) squat recently. Incredible. I wondered when Clark's and Passanella's squat records would fall.

However, if the numbers are correct, Mikesell is still a significant ways off from the all-time squat record - 1230! Paul Anderson allegedly lifted this back in the 60s. He also stated that in his workouts, he routinely did half-squats with 1500 and quarter-squats with 2000. (I wonder what kind of bar he used for that?)

    Any comments?

I think that the official world record squat is 1141 by Brent Mikesell.

Right - I knew I might have been off on Mikesell's poundage a bit. Still, 1141 is awesome. And I know that it's the "official" record. Anderson's lift was before the association even came into existence, so none of his lifts have been officially recognized. Anderson benched 627 and deadlifted over 800 - quite respectable. But he is known for his leg strength, which is why excelled in the squat. He also did a back lift of 6,270 lbs. - a feat never equalled and the most weight ever lifted by a human (if you disregard Samson of the Old Testament, who may have a gripe with that!)

paul anderson was naturally built for strength. the first time he ever tried squatting. he did over 400 pounds for reps easy. and then another time without lifting he did 500 for a triple. he also did not have good knowledge of nutrition for lifting in his days so who knows how far he could have went with good supplements and nutrition.

Yes, Anderson never used a weightlifting belt nor leg wraps on his monster lifts, much less a lifting suit. One wonders what weights he might have hoisted with them.

Those lifts weren't in a competition or anything. I'm not saying he did or didn't do 'em, just that I don't really count it unless it's at a sanctioned competition.

And Mikesell is the fuggin' man. What's his deadlift, by the by? Having only four fingers on one hand must make things a bit tricky.

So Anderson had a 627 pound bench raw?? And a 1230 squat with no belt or knee wraps? that's amazing. It's a shame there are no pictures of him lifting those massive weights.

Mikesells deadlift is in the low 800's. Not sure what it is exactly, but i think i remember him doing 804 at one meet, and one meet of him doing 815 or so.

anderson lifted 1206. There is some debate as to whether he went to paraell though. The official world record is the 1174 since Anderson never preformed his squat in a powerlifting meet.

I'm not sure that he didn't ever do power lifting meet but I do know powerlifting wasn't very popular back then.

He did do alot of O-lifting meets though.

Also he deadlifted 1000 lbs. with lifting hooks.

In that picture he is over 330 lbs. He trained down to 330lb for the Olympics.

He got the Gold at the Melbourne Olympics in 1956. He was the last American to win the Gold in SHW.

Not really sure on anything else but I am sure that roids were around then, as germans were known to have used them for their soldiers in WWII. Heck for all I know if could have been the germans that originally developed them... gene freaks.
