In the book "SLICED" (by Bill Reynolds & Negrita Jayde), the states of muscularity are objectified as follows (I'll summarize each):
1. Full house = Over or near 20% bodyfat with no visible muscle definition and only a hint of separation between major muscle groups if those groups are very large. Basically a person in this state could be confused for a football linebacker. If you're higher than this bodyfat percentage, you'd be considered overweight/obese.
Here are some examples of the Full House state:
Tankus: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/attach...5&d=1064029833
CrazyMike: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/attach...2&d=1071515731
2. Hard = Some muscle separation appears between delts and upper arm. Abs are still not visible. Approximately 15% bodyfat.
Here's a picture of Railz in the Hard state:
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/attach...5&d=1044230984
3. Cut = More muscle separation appears particularly in the chest and back, outline of the abs begins to appear slightly. Approximate bodyfat level = 12%
Here's are 2 examples of Abdominator in the Cut state:
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/attach...2&d=1059941438
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/attach...8&d=1059942187
4. Defined = Muscle separations get deeper in the arms, chest, legs and back, and abs appear when flexed. Approx. bodyfat level = 10%
Here's an example of Abdominator in the Defined state:
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/attach...1&d=1068554724
5. Ripped = Abs are clearly visible all the time, vascularity in arms is prominent, chest and back separation is obvious, and face is starting to appear more angular. Condition can be held indefinitely. Approximate bodyfat level = 7-9%
Here are some examples of the Ripped state:
Railz: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/attach...8&d=1052741270
Abdominator: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/attach...5&d=1067793911
6. Shredded = Striations appear in large muscle groups when they are flexed. You look small in clothes, but look fantastic when you're not. Vascularity appears in lower abdomen and in the legs. Condition can be held for several days with careful dieting. Competitive bodybuilders often aim for this state for competition day. Approximate bodyfat level = 5-7%
Here are some example of the Shredded state:
ShaneG85: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/attach...9&d=1063572548
Freaker: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/attach...7&d=1027498129
Abdominator: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/attach...4&d=1069531013
7. Sliced = Muscles and tendons begin to appear in the face when chewing, striations appear everywhere and vascularity appears everywhere. Bodyfat levels are close to 3% and subcutaneous water levels are near 0. Condition can only be held for a few hours at a time. Not a healthy condition to stay in due to lower water level.
Here's an example of someone in the Sliced state:
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/attach...4&d=1071062790
Anywho, perhaps you can use this guide to determine how far you're progressing. If/when you decide to cut, make sure you give yourself 12-16 weeks to do it. It won't happen overnight, but the results can be striking when you get into the final 2-3 weeks.
Hope this helps.

7-9 percent (ripped) is not too lean in my opinion. Sliced is for competition and only lasts for a couple days to win a contest. Why don't you have the proper perspective on a bodybuilding website?

I agree with zaxx that sliced looks shocking. Who's to say what the "proper" perspective is? Just because he's on here doesn't necessarily mean he has the same goals as everyone else, or similar aesthetic tastes. For daily life, i'd far prefer to be in the defined region of bf.

Sliced state would strictly be held for a competition, and in terms of competition on stage, you would want to look like that. Has nothing to do with your opinions, tastes, goals, etc. in relation to daily life.

To each his own.....
I dont understand what the competition is for if looking like that is considered and edge....most nauseating/disturbing physique?
BigMike is certainly not at or above 20% body fat more like 15-16%.
I looked so much like tankus when I was playing fball it is scary....about 6' 290. Same exact arms and traps its really uncanny.
Although he looks like he might be a good deal shorter possibly.
I think alot probably depends on how large you are naturally also....I mean the larger you are GENERALLY the less defined you need to be to be "impressive" to others imho. And im not a big fan of vascularity so that throws things off a bit.
A 5"5 gymnast ripped up looks good, nothing all that impressive but he looks fit.
A 6"3 280 hard guy looks much better imho......just personal preference perhaps. The guy that is just HARD imho has one of the best physiques on there.
Plus smaller and shorter people are naturally more defined and built usually.
It just doesnt have that DAMN factor though like when you are up close to a large man. (250+)

Because you are not really into bodybuilding based on your posts you probably don't know bodyfats too well. Tankus is OVER 20% bodyfat in that picture. People tend to overestimate their bodyfat. Yes being bigger and shredded is more impressive. Shorter people and smaller people aren't naturally defined. You either have low bodyfat or have high bodyfat... its simple as that.
Why are you mentioning a gymnast? WtF does that have to do with bodybuilding.

its simple bro, a bodybuilding contest is the sport of seeing who has the most symmetrical mass and who presents it the best, the more fat you have obscuring the muscle the less muscle you see, its just the spirit of competition that guys go to the sliced level to compete....and to be honest most shows have a bunch of ripped guys, and like the 1 or 2 shredded guys battle it out for the win....rarely do you see a sliced guy....yeah facial striations I don't think are necessary lol.
And trust me, take two guys, one at 15% bodyfat weighing 220lbs and another at 4% bodyfat weighing 180lbs...the 220lbs guy will literally look like he doesnt work out if they posing off....and believe me, I've seen it....some guys enter bbing contests and you wonder what they were thinking with the lack of conditioning they have

are you saying that lower bodyfat is better then muscle mass? Because i mean im 15% BF, and i look no where near as good as those pics of the guys at 15% BF, like im far from it. Ive been lifting a year too. Like i wouldnt mind being 15% BF if i looked like them in the pics... christ even 20% they dont look that bad.
STATS:
Bench Press = 205 x 8
Squat = 225 x 8
Deadlift = 365 x 8
Shoulder Press = 155 x 8
Barbell Row = 175 x 8
