California class action suit against 24 Hour Fitness
To those of you in California, did anyone else recieve a letter in the mail notiftying you of a class action lawsuit against 24 Hour Fitness? Someone finally decided to sue them for charging people after they cancel their membership. I tried to cancel mine back in September when I moved, and they made it almost impossible. I kept getting charged, and finally disputed the charges with my credit card company. It got pretty ridiculous. My mom had the same thing happen to her when she was a member about 15 years ago. I ended up renewing my membership about two months ago because 24 Hour Fitness is much more convenient to m e than the other gym that I joined, but that doesn't change the fact that they're about as bad as AOL when it comes to cancelling your membership.
Anyway, the letter I got basically said that if you entered into a monthly contract with them between January 1, 2001 and January 1, 2006, and cancelled your membership, you are entitled to either a refund of your last month's dues, or a 45 day pass to the club. If you are currently a member, you can choose to upgrade your membership without paying a fee, change your contract to make sure they won't charge you any extra last month's dues, get a half hour training session, or get a 45 day pass.
Anyone else get a letter?
