I have soft muscles too.
It's quite annoying.
I'm somewhat defined and strong for size, but yet my muscles are sort of soft unless I'm using them. By bodyfat % is quite reasonable.
I blame it on genetics, but I also think muscle maturity is a factor. Should harden over time.
Doesn't really bother me though, it's just how it is. I have the distinct feeling that a change of diet/training won't change this either. I've done cutting programs before, and even after shedding fat my muscles are still kind of relaxed...like a swimmer's I've been told. Not worried about the taste? You will be. You will be. When I started getting serious about working out when I was 17, my muscles were quite 'squishy' as well. There are a few things that I can attribute the the hardening of muscles:
(1) Training history. They are not going to get hard overnight. I know it sucks, but it took me a solid 2 years before they really became hard.
(2) Diet. And by diet, I mean proper protein intake. You could take something such as Ala or NO2 in order to increase the hardness, but this only serves as a temporary solution. Make sure you are getting in your g/lb of bodyweight.
(3) WATER!!!!! I can't stress this enough. If your muscles are 70% water, then I am sure you are taking in a gallon a day.
Again, I am, just giving my two-cents. I had the same problem when I first started training but not so much so anymore. This is just what worked for me! Good luck with everything! It's taken me about 10 years to finally 'GET IT'

remember buddy, pure ROCK HARD muscle is the RESULT of finding YOUR TRUE SELF and being conscious of your ROCK HARD foundation!!!!!!. Buddies are always of help, NEXT time, tell your BUDDY to caress your BODY with his HAND, feeling EVERY MUSCLE and then TELL him to GENTLY approach your MAIN MUSCLE with his hand, always admiring YOUR ANATOMY, because BUDDIES will always be THERE for you, and he will KNOW what will SATISFY YOU, because THE ACT OF LOVE has no boundaries and is an EXPRESSION of YOUR ROCK HARD MUSCLE!!!!! Take good Care, BUDDY!!!!
sorry, saw the topic and had to give it a try

LOL @ CR.
Maybe you are somewhat depleted, you could try increasing your carb intake to maximize your muscle glycogen."Bad habits are like a comfortable bed, easy to get into, but hard to get out of." - Anonimus -

Recovery is key. Massages, epsom salts baths, foam rolling, sleep masks, contrast showers, it all adds up. Get a foam roller, The Stick, a tennis/baseball, use them and stay healthy, pain and injury free.
