I read a article alittle while back about people using chain for bench presses. I have a chain at my house but the whole 20ft chain doesn't weigh over 30lbs. Where do you get a short chain that weights alot and what is a suited length chain? And just out of curiousity, would most gyms let you use chains? I would feel like a idiot going in there with 2 giant chains and then get ran out for it.

Edit: In case any of you didn't know, the bands you want to use for benching are mini bands. They come in blue and green, and no there is no difference between the two colored minis. The strong thick green and blue bands are ideal for squatting, even benching if you have the right set up for it. There are other bands out there like the medium purple bands, monster mini bands and light bands. All are great to use with your weight lifting.Last edited by PainThriller; 12-13-2003 at 08:19 PM.

I've never seen bands being used. How do you use them? One part of the band over the bar and the other attached to a db on the ground?

Here is a pic of how it works. Some benches have a band loop attachment built in to them, like this bench.

I dont see a point in it..why not just put the weight on...puttingon the pand probablyl takes just as long?
When you add a band, it makes the top of the lift heavier, and when you push the weight back up, you continually have to fight the bands reistance all the way through the movement. Same thing with chains, they pull down on the lift making it harder. Say your using 230 lbs on the bench press, and a doubled mini band on each side. Now a mini band is 25 lbs of resistance. The weight on the bar is 230, but at the top with the band pulling down, the weight is 280 lbs. Fighting through the bands resistance creates more speed and explosiveness in the lift, and you will notice the carryover when you bench, squat or deadlift without them. It's a method of increasing explosiveness withen the lift, and a method getting used to heavier weights, but not necessarily with added weight, but in resistance..Last edited by PainThriller; 12-13-2003 at 09:33 PM.

the bands are pulling down on the bar, making the eccentric part of the lift more stressful. thats the part of the lift that makes you grow so there's the logic to it.

its not just like adding more plates...As you press the weight, the part of the chain comes off the floor, as more chain comes off the floor the harder the lift gets...making the top part of the lift having more resistance unlike pure weight which is just consisntant resistance.
