How to destroy a diskette ?

a regular 3'5" diskette, how do i destroy it with no visible damage ?

a magnet ? can i takea magnetic from a fridge and put it on it ?

sure. a magnet will destroy the data on it.

I remember when I first got into computer repair. Went into a seceratary's office to fix her computer, I asked her if she had been doing backups, she said " yes, every day" I said " well i'm gonna have to restore from backup." She said " No problem. its right there on the side of the filing cabinet."

I looked over, and she had a floppy held on the filing cabinet with a big magnet from a speaker or something.

I was told about these people in school, and never believed they existed.

yeah. just set it on top of the diskette on your desk or something for a few minutes. if the magnet is poerfull enough it will erase it.

so slap it in a drive, and see if its readable.

no it wont hurt the drive any.

edit i gotta ask though, why not just format it?

if you absolutely want to kill the drive (ie turn it into rubbish) then put it in the microwave for a few seconds. theres a bunch of people that do this to get warranty on flaky hardware

if you just want to wipe it then give it a low level format, not a normal format- normal formats can be reversed if you know what youre doing

I wouldnt advise putting anything metal in a microwave.

and as for the unformatting, yeah you can use the unformat command. But you can also go to a command line and type

format a: /u

will wipe it, and not save the unformat info.

**** .... it worked

so what do i do now ??

just right click on the diskette drive , and click on format ..

you see i need to return this to some1 ... and it must seem as if nothings wrong with it ...

best thing is to pop it in ... and have an error shown on the screen ..

what now ?

oh well i found an easier solution just took a sharp knife and scratched the inside ..... it wont load even ..

if it erased it, then its blank. you can format it if you want, and give them back a disk ready to go, or you can keep it as is, if your trying to make it look like an accident

Back in college, I had a friend who worked in the computer lab. He said some girl once jammed a CD into a 5 1/2 in floppy drive
