    Let's go see what happens.....

    Today is the first day.

I have been really all over the place with trying to decide whether or not to start a journal - on the one hand it seems pretty narcissistic - on the other I suppose it's a way to keep accountable.

So, here we are at 4:30 in the avo on Sunday in sunny Christchurch, NZ and it's happening.

I think what tipped me over the edge is that I am actually feeling quite crap today! When I say it's the first day, it's the first day of my first 8 weeks with the legend Ms. Emma-Leigh. I have been training myself with mixed results for a bloody long time. However strong I feel or little I weigh, the old bodyfat issue is, well, still an issue.

I have to admit I am a bit overwhelmed with the new eating regime and my first day of training kicked my little white butt all over the floor (yes, a hundred little ninjas with their little ninja sticks!) but the only thing I could focus on was how wierd that little piece of banana made me feel!

I have PCOS and so have to really, really watch foods that spike my insulin. I've been eating with this recognition for 7 years, and have all of my symptoms under control, which I have to give myself a big pat on the back for really. It is what is is, and so it will always be harder for me to be lean. But I know what to do - it's not like this way of eating is new for me, so I reckon that's a big first step.

Colin my magic hubby tries to be patient with me. I know I can tend to be a bit obsessive (I'd say focused!) and impatient and bossy and 'full on'. He totally supports me, and makes me a better me but we've had some words today. All good now though.

For any of you ladies who might be reading, thank you so much for your inspiration. I hope I feel better tomorrow, I'm sure I will. And I can't wait to blow your minds in 8 weeks with my before and afters!

    Susan

Hi Kitebean, welcome to journaling! I also have PCOS, but certain foods spiking insulin levels was never mentioned to me, but I guess I should look into it more...looks like we share the same struggle, then!

I'm looking forward to following your journal

    Wink Butt DOMS Rock

    Hey ladies

First thanks so much to each of you for being here! I've avidly followed each of your journals over the past months, and they always provide a smile, inspiration and an AMEN!

And yea, Ms. Emma-Leigh, I guess you can tag along ;-)

Sherdi I know I'm not alone in saying our good positive energy and thoughts are with YOU this week!!!!

So, yea butt DOMS are a beautiful thing! It's great to feel different! But then I'm one of these wierdos who enjoy period cramps as well.....

Today was a better day than yesterday in my head, the food worked great and I am shocked at how much less hungry I was today on the new regime as compared to my old DIY at around the same calories and similar macros, long may it continue....

One of the first challenges appeared twice today - it's not gonna be a total biggie, but it's there. I'm an Enterprise Solution Specialist (don't worry, I don't even really know what that means!) for a large IT company, and Christchurch is a VERY social place. Just today I have been invited to and am expected to attend 2 drinks do-s this week. I've not told anyone really about my little project, but I have said that I am not drinking for 8 weeks as a little 'experiment' so hopefully that will work! I'm not a big party girl anyway, and it's always been difficult for me to smile and be social at times, and I have to admit that sometimes a little drink helps - it's just hard to balance the expectation of what relationship building entails in this very male-dominated industry!

I'm looking forward to tomorrow - going to train at lunch and I'm afraid I'll come back to work a bit more frazzeled than usual - I thought I worked myself hard but this is in a different league!

Feel really good. Well, I wasn't too flash this morning because I hadn't had a proper poo in 2 days. Sorry guys if you are going to visit you are going to have to expect poo talk on occassion! I get really uptight if I go a day without a poo, so the next morning I am always even more stressed about it. So I left the house this morning without but did at work, which was good! As my old mate used to say 'I dropped the kids off at the pool'.....

I lifted at lunchtime and went and did my cardio straight after work, and it seemed to work well.

Again today I had some new exercises that I had NEVER done before so I am expecting some DOM-age tomorrow.

I'm still gonna do boot camp at lunchtime once a week because I like it, I like getting outside and I also like feeling part of a team - even though it's not really, it's the closest I've ever come. Some of the sprinting and plyometric stuff is pretty complementary to lifting as well methinks.

Funny about March 27th, I'll never forget this day, it was the day of my first kiss (first proper french kiss that is) haha I can't remember much else though!

    Hi Susan,

It looks like you are well on track!! Well Done!!

I was trying to find a funny 'drop the kids in the pool' image but this was the best I could come up with!!

It is funny that you talk about poo! I have been thinking alot about it lately... especially with all the fibre that Emma-Leigh makes us eat!

Keep up all your fantastic work!!

Gray kinda rainy day - work was back to back - didn't end up going to boot camp because I didn't fancy getting soaked.

I made it through the drinks thing unscathed though - had a bottle of fizzy water and wasn't even tempted which was good.

I have been a bit hungry today. I have been used to eating about every 3 hours but the new routine has me on 4-5 hour blocks for some and it's a bit tough, especially on non-training days.

Big mistake today was trying to explain to a colleague at work what I'm trying to do. She saw me eating some of my goo, commented that itl ooked disgusting, asked what it was. I told her and then felt compelled to tell her about what I am calling the '8 week experiment to finally deal to my bf'.

The problem is to look at me (in clothes!) I don't look very big at all, and for me to sit there and say that my BMI is not heathy (according to the online test) etc just is hard for them to understand. So she is now convinced that I have serious body image issues and am not right in the head.

How have you guys dealt with this? I reckon I'm not going to try to explain it to anyone else.....

LOL! My work mates think that I am crazy!! They are very worried that I have an eating disorder and that I have serious body image issues

Now I tend to just do what I do and don't bother explaining anything unless they specifically ask. One of the ladies suggested that I would still be healthy and look good if I weighed 80kgs... she is overweight herself.... I just said that maybe she thinks I would look good at that weight but I certainly would not be healthy

Dont worry about missing boot camp... no one likes running in the rain!

Great WO today, Just felt so strong and awesome, a few good PB's as well!

Funny though I still look at y'alls weights and feel like I have a ways to go. Colin just said it's good to have a yardstick and that is very true, but I also promised myself not to make this a competition....

This process is going to be much more about losing BF, and I'm glad that I can keep my heart and mind open and aware of other challenges/and or changes that this process will bring up.

Back at work this afternoon I got the giggles, not just a little bit, but major, and it lasted for like 15 minutes. It felt SO GOOD and it hasn't happened in ages. The worst was at a wedding years ago I got the giggles with my pal Robert and I was literally lying in his lap convulsing - we had to get up and leave....didn't go over too well!

Finally got my proper Creatine and Whey, what a production that has been! Christchurch is a lovely place to live but truly the back-end-of-beyond when it comes to getting things that you city girls take for granted. I am interested to see what the impact will be.

Not alot to report today - day off training - food going good - poo 2 days in a row hurrah!

Work was pretty full-on this week, got alot done, exercised some dormant intellectual muscles which was great, managed to avoid drinking twice which was also good.

Roll on Saturday I'm running in the morning, lifting around 11, and hopefully kiting in the afternoon. Plus I get to eat some different things tomorrow so that is exciting as well - also can't wait to see what the impact of the xpand will be

    catch ya

[Normal xpand I like cherry lemonade... but for Energised I like grape = it is yummy.... especially with chocolate whey - and if you use your imagination it *sort of* tastes like cherryripe!! ]

    That was a trip

hmmm OK well Xpand. I had a very strong reaction, and not in a totally good way. Well, it was good in the sense that I was lifting like an absolute ANIMAL, but I was seriously tripping! Afterwards I was a quivering mass of goo having an out-of-body experience - hyper aware and sensitive to light, sound, distorted reality...

So ladies was it just because it was the first time? I think I will try half a dose tomorrow.....

I feel back to normal now, 3 hours later.

What a drag because I LOVED the way I was lifting, so focused, so STRONG.

BTW I got Orange which was yummy both before with the vanilla and after with the chocolate!

Hehe even when I was young and silly and experimented with substances, I never felt anything *quite* like this!!!!

Do I just need to suck it up?????

    Whew OK much better today.....

Still definetely could feel a difference, but no where near as strange. I did have a slightly smaller amount, like maybe 80% of the scoop, but Emma-Leigh did reassure me that it was a normal first time reaction and should get better! I had myself all hyped up and was concentrating on not tripping out as well, so I'm sure the combination made a difference.

I got really pi**ed of leaving the house for the gym though. Our house has a gate from the street and kind of a narrow walkway with about 6 steps up to the front door. We had these 4 really cool sandstone Chinese Lanterns on the steps, and some pond-scum stole them last night! I was so upset - they must have seen them in the daylight before because you can't really see them at night, and they must have been waiting for an opportunity. I can't believe we didn't wake up though, the bedroom is in front and Colin especially is a really light sleeper. I half thought it might have been an April fools and our friends had taken them, but I don't really think so. We have to comfort ourselves in the realisation that the Karma Police will catch up with the perps at some stage....it just really makes me despair. But it could be worse!

Still, 4 day week coming up! Looking forward to my program for the week!

And Sherri did it, what could be better!

    peace out

Day off today, niiiiice also got some new foods on my pwogwam (reference to dean tavalouris) including a yummy pancake this morning!

Gonna get up at 5:30 tomorrow and do my lifting first thing, mainly because there is a thing at lunchtime I need to go to, also because I don't want to do it afterwork with the energized xpand in case it keeps me awake, and I'm a bit worried doing it in work hours full stop because I am working that hard and sweating that much I would have to pretty much start my morning hair/makeup ritual from scratch....

hmm sometimes I think it would be great to be a wash-n-go bloke, but only for a split second!

    c ya

I loved training early! Well the night was kind of frought, you know when you know you you have to get up and so wake up like every half hour...and plus betty blue did her little 'wake up and pay attention to me' routine at 3:15...

after all of my freaking out about the energised xpand I am now officially in love with it. One side effect though that since I took it in the morning I didn't even fancy my special-one-cup-a-day-of-excellent-coffee!

Did 30 minutes on spin bike tonight, not my favourite by any stretch of the imagination.

Feeling a bit bad about not wanting to go anywhere for the long weekend even though we have been invited to dunedin, it would just be too difficult with my plan, is that terrible?

    ahhhhhhh

Low cal/carb day today so not so much energy - BootCamp was a bit of a chore today just didn't have the explosive energy I normally do.

The poo thing still isn't totally sorted, I can't help but think that maybe it has something to do with the volume of food I'm eating? And also I don't understand why it's kind of sticky when I am drinking so much water? I wish I understood how that works!

Feel good generally though, and I can't wait to see what the tape says on Saturday at the end of week 2!

DOH, lightbulb moment in Oz!! I've been drinking lots of tea the last week, thought it had something to do with the cooler weather, but I had been taking a "fat burner" (don't ask!!), that of course did NOTHING, but I kinda liked the "zing" pre-workout and the bottle ran out a week or so ago. Like I said - DOH!!

Everything seems great in here Susan, keep up the excellent energy. Are you gonna publish those measurements??

Great workout today - but I'm hungry ! Anyway I guess I'm brave enough now to publish what I'm pushing.....

    Random order, Highest Weight only

    Standing Calf Raises #352
    Leg Press #308
Leg Curls #79.2 (Emma's SADISTIC version!)
Deadlift #110 - think I'm gonna have to figure out how to use straps to go higher here....
    Reverse BB Lunge #110
    Weighted Incline Crunch #22

I feel like I am well and truly into the program now, getting used to the new exercises and rising to the challenge of always going one better, and still in the space where that is always a PB so thats gotta be a good thing!

Oh yea had a good poo today :-)

Was hoping to have recieved my non-energized xpand today to use PWO but alas not to be, and we have officially begun the 4 day weekend - HURRAH AND HUZZAH!

And ubermamma lets see what the tape shows before I commit - but I have a feeling its gotta be good

WHOOT!! Look at that leg press - it is fantastic! I am so glad you are getting into the swing of things and that you are starting to feel more comfy with challanging yourself with the lifting! Just keep pushing it and we'll strip that booty down in no time!

ps: 100% agree with you here - HAZAAAH for four day weekends! Enjoy yourself!
