    Pre Workout Question

    When and what do you guys usually eat before working out?

    I am playing around with this, and today I am going to eat about 2 hours before the gym. A piece of chicken, and a handful of walnuts.

    You should be consuming a complex carbohydrate source along with a protein source about 45 minutes to an hour before hitting the gym. Don't underestimate the importance of carbohydrates. An ideal meal would consist of some oatmeal with whey protein which is what you can use for your post workout shake as well.

    bump

    oatmeal is a great idea pre workout

    you can also have a chicken or turkey sandwhich with wheat bread, or some chicken with sweet potatoes and an apple. gotta chug some carbs low on the gi about an hour before you workout. Makes a tremendous difference in your energy levels.

    Is ground up oatmeal in PW whey shake good or bad? After reading all the threads about high GI vs. low GI pw, there seem to more 'expert' people on the board advocating low GI - recommending oatmeal, in fact.

    If I were to do this, how much oatmeal (in it's powdered state) should I use in the shake PW?

    Protein from this source should not be counted in your total daily amount. It's an incomplete source. But, the special K is a great choice for pre-workout carbs.

    Bump on the Oatmeal and pretty much any low GI carb source.

    It's your choice. Many people (including me) see the same gains when they went from high GI to low GI. I usually take in 30g of oatmeal directly after workout, then about a 1/2 hour later another 30g. Then a 1/2 hour later after that, I eat a regular meal (chicken breast w/ beans, etc....)

    30g = x cups? 1/4, 1/3, etc.

    Do you measure this pre or post grinding?

    Look on the back of your container. Mine is 1/3 a cup.
