    Depression

    Hi


    I am 16 and I often suffer from depression. Somedays its so bad I have no motivation to go to the gym, does anyone else deal with this.

    I also suffer from a little depression, but I find that lifting helps. The hardest part is to just go there. But once I'm at the gym and moving around, I feel better (must be the endorphins). Have you been to the doctor about this. They can help by offering therapy and/or drugs. The only down side about this is that most anti-depressents make you a little lethargic. I take paxil and although I feel better, sometimes I have no energy in the gym.

    yes...i used to take medication, which helped...but it made me very nauscious, so i stopped. I have recently gotten off of the medication, and i find it harder and harder to get to the gym and follow a good diet, but i'm crediting it to over training at the moment, and i'll see how i feel in a few more days when i'm done with my break. If i'm not feeling better by friday, im gunna start the medication again. I'd recomend seeing a professional about treating your depression, that is...if you're actually suffering from depression. It sounds more like you just get "depressed" from time to time...but not a case of depression. Peace

    Yeah man..I take paxil as well...It is more for general anxiety though which was giving me terrible headaches...The paxil has helped and I havent had any side effects from it..

    Someone mentioned earlier that just going to the gym and getting in the flow of things pumps them up..I find this to be true as well..good luck

    I go to the gym when I'm feeling depressed, but it looks like that's just me. If I had a crappy week, I got a 6 or 7 day split. If not, I stick with my usual 5 day split. I usually feel a little better for awhile after going to the gym.

    i think the reason i don't have depression is because my girlfriend always makes me happy. not just sexualy, but she always feels and talks about my body. but before i met her. i did have mild depression. plus, you're 16, girls aren't that hard to get at that age. i wasn't even big at 16, and i was always with girls. so, i suggest getting a lady into your life

    I never had a problem with depression until the last couple months. Went to the doc, got the medication, it helps but its not the solution. You need to realize what you are living for. Find something or someone you love. Its a battle, a battle that you have to win to be happy.

    Go to your doctor and re-assess your goals.

    I played football last year and that was the best escape from all the **** people throw at you. There was nothing better then giving some poor kid a taste of your pain by knocking his ass inside out. I sometimes feel depressed for nothing but anything physical helps out.

    A lot of teens suffer from depression, its best to see a doctor. If you find you have no motivation for workouts. What i do is take a 30-45min. nap, when i get up i feel energized.

    Body building is 40% lifting, 40% diet and 40% sleep. And it's always going to be 120% dedication.

    Whats the cause of your depression if you dont mind saying? Maybe it would help you if you told us. I hope your not embaresed to go see a doctor about this. Depression is not something that will go away by itself, its an ilness.

    I was depressed for a verry long time before reasesing(sp?) what i want out of life, and seeing a shrink. After that everything changed. The onely medication i ever needed was a chance to better myself every week, in the gym. Its what i look forward to every day, every week. When i get depressed i think about what im doing in life and i get proud of myself thinking about it and survive for one more day. If you like bodybuilding go for it, your not gonna be let down.

    i think all teens sometimes feel a bit of depression no matter who you are....I sometimes get it now but then i just hit the gym and think about what I will look like after i reach my goal...

    I only have depression because of school and my finances while i'm in school... constant worrying gets me depressed... will i have enough money for protein. But going to the gym makes me feel better.

    i guess ill tell my story.

    well i guess you could say that im mildly depressed or is it just frustration? I just dont get why i cant get a gf. I am not bad looking girls tell me im cute and wat not but i cant seem to get a gf. But of course u see my ugly friends getting hooked up with girl. I just dont get it. then i guess i get frustrated cuz of bodybuilding. I think that i am supposed to be growing but im not and i dunno just gets me really really frustrated. Maybe sometimes i need a workout out partner it tends to make me train harder..maybe im just frustrated!!

    wat in gods name am i doing wrong?!?!?

    yea i hear yea, everyone gets depressed, especially now, cause girls are all ****ty, i basically jus throw that **** aside, adn hit the gym and the punching bag, i take my anger/depression out constructively and it jus makes me train all that much harder, faster,and stronger. Food for thought

    Depression is a disease it doesnt nessarily have some one single cause..
    And im talking about real depression not just "my girlfriend dumped me" depression
    Generally depression is because of some problems with seratonan in the brain.
    Exercise helps your brain create seratonan.

    That's some of the worst advice i've heard. Sex will make you happy? Ok, well for a few minutes maybe. But for a teen thats awful adivce, that could lead to unwanted pregnency, and hopelessness. Seriously, if your depressed go to doctors/consulers. Same thing with drinking, that will not help with depression either.
