Question an issue with belly fat... maybe stress?

Hey all,

I'm having a bit of an issue with belly fat. I've been working hard on a workout regime for the past year. Yeah there are time where i don't feel like doing anything and usually won't for a couple of days at a time, but those are usually times of transition in my life. Other than those rare occassions I get to the gym at least 3 times a week to lift weights along with another day or two of cardio if i have time in the week. My concern is that even with all the working out, lifting weights and cardio, and eating health (my diet has drastically changed) I still cant seem to lose weight. I have a pudgy middle. I wake up in the mornings and up until I swallow something I have a nice flat stomach that you can see my abs thru (so I know they're there). Someone I was talking to mentioned it could be stress? Does anyone else think its stress or something else? I'm just tired of knowing I'm more in shape than some of the girls at the gym but that they look better since they're stomach's stay flatter! Its become very frustrating and at times almost discouraging.

For those that may want to know.... my diet a year ago consisted of way too many sweets, grilled cheeses for dinners, pancakes and french toast for breakfast, lunch was whatever i could grab or find. Now my diet consists of eggs or egg white omelette in the mornings, a special k bar as a snack throughout the day, whole wheat tuna sandwiches or grilled chicken wheat wraps for breakfasts and dinners and peanut butter, sugar free jello and occasional cottage cheese as snacks (and of course whey protein on days i'm working out!)

Any suggestions?

You may be experiencing abdominal bloating due to food reactions. Your situation sounds alot like mine. In college, my diet was like yours... lots of breads, sweets, chocolate, junk. This type of eating creates an imbalance in gut ecology - an overgrowth of bad bugs, so to speak. If you've ever been on broad spectrum antibiotics, that can also contribute to the problem by killing off the good gut flora indiscriminately. Stress and eating on the run don't help either.

Some of the major food offenders are in the list of what you're currently eating: eggs, wheat, dairy and peanuts. These can all cause abdominal bloating and water retention - if you're sensitive to them. I highly recommend you check out Elson Haas' book The False Fat Diet to learn more.

Sorry to jump on here with a question for MisFit, but...what are the methods to cleaning your intestional tract? I've seen posts about liquid diet methods, is that what you mean? Thanks for the infromation and good luck killa820.

PS: I always like my abs the first thing in the morning too!

An herbal colon cleanse or colonic would be good to rid mucoid plaque and parasites to allow the colon and body function as it should.
