O/T: why do you lift?

Why did you begin to lift weights and why do you continue?

I started because I played football in highschool and if you wanted to play you had to lift, end of story.

After football I got into martial arts and there was this guy that was huge and he would always knock the wind out of me, so I decided to start lifting so I could beat him, funny thing is the gym I went to was the gym he went and he was there when I signed up, he took me under his lats and we acutally became good friends.

Now I lift because 1. I enjoy it, I love seeing how far I can push myself
2. It is an awesome stress reliever and I woiuld go crazy if I couldn't work out
3. there is the " I like to look good" part
4. I still train in martial arts so I want to be strong in compition
and 5. I want to know that if anyone messes with my family I can hand them their A$$ when I done kicking it

I'm 5'6, when I started lifting I was 130 some pounds.... it wasn't really a choice. Like most young teens when I started I wanted to be sexy for the ladies.

I always loved pushing myself and getting stronger, now I lift for strength and to compete in powerliting.

I have this deranged love for the idea of destroying myself in order to become stronger. That, and I also like the idea of picking up heavy **** for no apparent reason other than for the sake of itself.

I do it to impress both men and weman alike. I like being bigger and better than most anybody. When I walk down the street I like that I look better than most anybody. It makes Me feel good.

I started strictly to impress girls (that was over 10 years ago). Now I lift (and do cardio) to be healthy (and look good

In the beginning it was to get stronger for basketball
After High Schooll it was to compete but after a few injuries right now I am just trying to get in great shape and take it from there

after not lifting for awhile I realized the benifits. Stress relief, overall health, better performance in daily tasks. Plus people treat you differently when your in shape as opposed to not and you feel and think differently too.

I started exercise because I needed to improve my health and get in better shape.

I liked lifting so much that soon I foolishly drop most other activities and religiously weight train.

I continue because I don't want to be one of the "regular people" as Arnold called them in Pumping Iron. In addition, I strongly believe that lifting will contribute to a much better quality of life, and also strengthen my body so that in later years I will still have the ability to do many of the things I enjoy without as many physical limitations as those "regular people" encounter.

Yep, I'm glad all those regulars that joined the gym on Jan 2 are finally leaving! I always felt dirty with them around.

Oh wait! I'm one of the regulars. Nevermind.
