    How many mg of amino acid supplement does one need for it to be effective?

    Too many unless you have a unlimited bank account don't bother with it. I think (I could be wrong) it was something like 5-10 grams?I am not a nutritionist but I think that is what I read somewhere.

    Get enough protein and get it from as many different sources of possible.

    As for the original question, you need 1 gram per pound of bodyweight. Amino acids make up protein and that is the minimum protein need for growth. Amino acid supplements on average are a waste of money. They are absorbed and rendered useless too fast to really make a difference. Sometimes taking some BCAA's before or after a workout is handy in times of heavy stress, but other than that amino supps are really not necessary.

    You might consider taking dessicated liver tabs as a good source of aminos.
