    60g+ of protein at once - too much ?

    I'm using Labrada's V60, which recommends using two scoops (60g) of protein per serving. Is this too much protein for my body to absorb, especially if I mix the product with milk? (Another 8-12g of protein)

    I should note that V60 is a blend of different fast and slow proteins, which might be why they recommend so much at one time. (Or maybe it's to sell more protein?)

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Just to be sure, i would take those 2 servings maybe 2 or 3 hours apart. just so you get more in ya...

    well no one really knows how much protein an individual can consume, and i'm sure it varies...

    so just to be sure, maybe you could take it in the morning and evening, or a few hours apart, just to let it digest....

    yea that's a bit too much
    i'd go with a scoop and a half at most

    30-50 grams is the most you want at one serving, 50 being on the high end, i'd avoid 50, aim for 40.

    if you get really gassy you've had too much.

    how can you eat that stuff. i gave away a tub of the chocolate. That stuff is brutal. Oh yeah, 60grams is to much at one sitting.

    60g is fine, but the comment about gastrointestinal activity may be a concern. As far as digestion goes there should be none.

    take as much as you can stand , if your stomach rolls and blows then your taking to much. i like to eat a potatoe with my protein shake . your bodyweight means alot if your 130 pounds probably is to much. if your 275 you might need more than 60 grams you will have to see want your body can digest.

    Bump "too much protein" is a fricking mis-informed myth. However, it might just be EASIER to take 2 seperate 30g servings. Not better... just easier.

    Well said, very true. For a larger man (or stomach for that matter) 60g may be not problem to take, and thus more convient. I personally can sit down and eat 2 cans of Tuna (~60g protein) with some garden salad with no problem at all.

    There is no limit on how much protein the body can "absorb at one sitting." Do not worry about it.

    However, if you require say 200grms of protein, I would recommend 5 servings of 40grms each over 2 servings of 100grms each, simply for reasons of preventing catabolism, etc..

    note* The numbers I chose were completely arbitrary, selected only to make a point regarding volume and frequency of food consumption.

    OH MY F*CKING GOD. This MYTH won't die. Besides common sense tells us it is a myth. It just doens't make any sense at all.

    The main thing I want to point out is that only 1 study I repeat one study shows any possible health concerns with high protein and that is only in people with predisposed conditions. Otherwise there is no issue with high protein at all or the use of high amounts of protein in a single sitting.

    Now please everyone put this friggin scare tactic to rest already.

    I can stomach 60 grams no problem but usually my farts start melting the paint on the wall and flys avoid me at all costs. Like philhill4 said it is a scare tactic. I would try 60 grams and see how your stomach handles it.

    unless its after working out, my stomach has major problems (i.e.) major ****s, i advise against large amounts of protein drinks unless you are eating solid food with it

    " i advise against large amounts of protein drinks unless you are eating solid food with it"

    this is true, 60g of whey will shoot through you 2 fast, 60g of casein will give you the sh*ts. and 60g of Mix protein will also give you the sh*ts. Take half the MRP then wait 1-2 hours then take the other 30g worth. There probably are not health concerns with taking 60g at once, but when using milk protein its better to eat first then take them. That way you you stay off the toliet. Whey goes threw you fast, and mixed or powder containing casein contains 2 much lactose (2% and higher is 2 much for large amounts of protein powder intake over time). The healthy microflora in your intestine will slowly decrease and then you will become lactose in tollerant all of a sudden. Happen to me, was taking 9 scoops of optimum a day with reg. milk for about 5 months, now if I take any protein it has to be egg or whey isolate with lactaid milk.

    Do you really think large bodybuilders eating 300+ grams a day of protein are eating 10 30 gram meals. No, they are probably eating 5 60 gram, or maybe 6 50 gram meals. And it works, that is why they are large bodybuilders. Also, try different brands to see if they make you dump less, there is some difference.

    this is not true. everyone is different. at 255 lbs., 75 gram protein shakes, consumed every two hours (solid meals in between some times, others not) don't give me the ****s. never have. at least 500 grams of protein, from multiple sources don't upset my stomach. lets not make balnket statements now, everyone is different.

    thats in general everyone is not at 255 lbs. the av. person is 180lbs and some people are lactose intollerent and some are not. That wasnt a blanket statement.

    is the guy who posted this 255lbs? Most people can handle .75g to 2g per lb of bw. a day. That amount for you isnt an over kill.

    It's not really a myth. The problem isn't with absorption. It's what happens after it's absorbed. Since there's no storage mechanism, excess protein (in theory) may have an undesirable effect on pH levels and make the kidneys work harder to excrete the excess. Only a small fraction of excess protein will ultimately be converted to fat or sugar. And the body will only be able to use so much protein at once, so a large amount of it will be removed in the urine.

    I think what needs to be more fully investigated through study is whether weightlifters and athletes are able to utilize more protein at once than the average person because of extra demand for muscle function and repair.

    A few people here have said well i can eat this much without being sick or I can eat this much without getting the ****s,

    just because you can stomach it dosen't mean you are absorbing it into your blood,

    i'd say my 10% bodyfat at 255 lbs says i am absorbing a good deal of it. like i said, everyone is different though

    As a rather large fellow you are probably absorbing more than most thats true,

    Also protein absorbtion is improved when consumed with other foods, I have heard fats help protein absorbtion, thats why I always throw my flax oil in with my shakes,

    btw if protein that isnt absorbed gets secreted in the urine, surely there will be some tests somewhere showing how much gets excreted as you start to ingest more protein per sitting?

    I don't start to see noticable weekly results unless I am getting between 400g-500g protein per day. It is also a cheap way to megadose on BCAA's

    here we go with generalizations. i don't know where you get your info from, but i'd check again. how many times must it be said, what works for you, may not work for me, and vice versa.

    have you tried increasing protein intake to these levels?

    i did the 200-250 grams of protein daily, guess where it got me, NO WHERE FAST.

    Amen to that Gunz ! ! I went from a out of shape 175 lbs to a lean 217 lbs and the best thing I EVER did was gradually increase my protein intake to these levels. Now this may only apply because I am a ectomorph, but I will continue to take as much protein as I physically can

    The what works for you etc etc can only ride so far, By the what works for you is not the same etc, scenario, if a 200lb man (me) gets results on 250g per day, and another needs 500g to get results, is it not possible that another 200lb man can build plenty muscle on 125g? that same guy probably gets great results off methoxy, and uses cable crossovers for the core of his workout, lol

    Here we have a man (pu12en12g) with a simular weight and height to me I dont think it would be a generalization to say he dosn't need double the protein intake I do, **** if it varied that wildly from person to person there would be no point in being here sharing our common knowledge and advice,
